New to Harley, CVO 110 vs 103
« on: June 07, 2024, 08:11:30 PM »

Been riding a long time, but just now switching to Harley. Coming from a Suzuki m109r, a power cruiser with gobs of power, but not comfy for the wife. We are looking at a 2013 CVO Ultra with 110 screaming eagle or a 2015 ultra limited (non-cvo) with twin cam 103. Both are in equally good condition, both have just over 30k miles and both sitting about the same price. Any input on one over the other? Most of the forums I have read split down the middle. As I know next to nothing about Harley, I'm open to any and all insight. Thanks in advance!

I might be a tad bit biased however, I've posted several times on this forum that my 2013 CVO Ultra Classic is the most reliable Harley that I've ever owned!  I've rode Harley's all my life and been riding CVO's since 2003.  I've rode this bike all over the US, Canada and down in to Mexico and all the photos are posted throughout this forum

Aside from my personal experience, when you buy a CVO you get the CVO family & friends along with it.  See the Events section of this forum.

By the way, is it the orange and black or the gray and black?

Thanks for the insight. Guessing I should probably plan to do the lifters and cams since is just past 30k miles? It's the orange and black by the way. I prefer blacked out over all the chrome bling myself.

The CVO has a ton of goodies with it.... and older technology.
The Limited has a twin cooled engine which helps a little with the heat, newer front suspension and a radio with built in GPS and the nicer one touch open saddlebags and tourpack.

Lifters, tuner and fullsac baffles is all that I've had done to my bike (80k miles)......no cam.  The Fullsac baffles and a tuner will add HP and TQ.  I believe that leaving the motor stock is one of the reasons it's been so reliable.

I wasn't fond of the orange & black when I first got it.  Seems like I'd always rode black or blue bikes.  But it grows on you....especially when you're getting compliments every time you stop for gas and there's no mistaking it when you're at a run like Sturgis or Daytona and you come outside to a thousand motorcycles.

I'm leaning towards the 110 only because it would logically seem I can make more power out of a 110 than a 103. I don't expect a touring bike to respond like my M109r, totally different purposes behind each bike. So 110 appeals a little more but I had read about the lifters and cams on the 110s that don't seem to be an issue on the 103. And 103 is newer and has some better technology. Not that I care about the GPS and such. I can read their feature comparisons all day, but yalls real life feedback is appreciated

I'm with JCZ. My 13' (silver) has had a Fullsac exhaust, tune, new lifters and rocker lockers. Runs great. Last of the old school fairings. Not into all the electronics on the new ones. Takes the rider out of it. My navigation system (wife) sits in the back..lol

Consider also changing the OEM valve springs on the 110".  This is part of the lifter problem.

You asked for any insight.
The 2015 is now the "Old style"
The 2013 is now the "Old,Old style"
If that sort of thing matters to you.
Good luck with your purchase!

I went in with intention of buying the CVO, but it had a few other issues and I managed to work out a great deal on the 2015. I'm thinking a few small upgrades on the 103, keep it for a few years, then upgrade to a CVO. Thanks for everyone's input. I learned a ton about Harley during this process, especially the CVO 110s.
