Interesting question since I thought the same.

IN the last couple of years I have seen a large number of FLHTPs (I hope I got the letter designation right) with sidecars come up for sale. I know NYC, Boston and a few other large municipalities use them. Most of the examples were nicely kept and some were extremely nice.

I think they have aged out (last production was 2010-2011) and the municipalities are looking to buy new ones.

Pittsburgh out sidecars on their motorbikes for winter. They ride year round. I know a guy that was a motor officer over there

In Washington DC motor officers put the side Hack on their bike on October and ride it like that until April.  So they are a motor officer year round.  Boston did that in the early 80's do not know if they still do.  Other North east cities do this.

I know people have bought bran new police bikes.  Wonder if we could by a side car rig bran new?  Yea I know the first post says police only.

The MOCO will not sell a sidecar to a civilian, I’ve inquired and they state for liability reasons. The ones provided for law enforcement is produced by Champion.

Thanks.  Not sure what the liability issues on a side hack are that aren't on a Tri-Glide or Motorcycle.  Seems to me they just don't want to sell it to civilians.  You could order a side car for the 2024 Heritage Revival.

 I have to correct my last statement I posted about the HD sidecar, below is from a HD fleet rep email on the subject.


"As for sidecars, sidecars can only be sold to Law Enforcement.  The reason being our sidecars are not tested for human passengers, plus we only sale a sidecar kit and you must have some carry over parts to make it work, such as the tub, the fender, and a few pieces to the frame."


He did point me to Champion a few times in reference to a sidecar for my use.

Same as the '23 Highway King...

The only differences I see are the Champion Chassis and the HD tub. (And since they dont mount exactly the same I am sure there are some differences/adaptations

AS an FYI, the Champion Hack even fits my fat ass.

Exactly... in 2019, I was on the mend from having lumbar fusion and multi-level cervical fusion.

I bought the 2001 FLTRSEi2 with the hannigan hack for that very reason.
