I hear ya. Bought my Aluma back in 2015 and it's either a '13 or '14 leftover so I got it for a nice price because the newer ones had the self storing ramp. Things have damn near doubled in the last 9 years.

When I rode to Alaska and back from Florida that is what I did.  My friends and I used clear window film on the leading surfaces to protect from road sand and rocks.  Worked very well and was removable when we got home.
