CVO COVER ON OPEN TRAILER
« on: November 17, 2024, 09:15:47 AM »

Has anyone used the cover that came with the CVO's on an open trailer? It has the strap that goes underneath with a buckle to secure it, and around the tourpack that can be pulled snug. It is pretty heavy the one that came with my 18 CVO Road Glide.

I was curious if it would not destroy it as I am looking to haul the bike to TX in December from KY.

I would not use a cover on a open trailer.  Anywhere it flaps in the wind (and it will) and touches paint or chrome it will scuff or dull it, windshield too most likely.

I agree with no cover.
I would be sure the puller has long mud flaps, and the front of the trailer has rock deflectors , might Be a good idea to remove the wind screen so the buffering doesn't create a problem, or use an enclosed trailer.

I trailer to AZ every year and have used a Geza Gear cover for the last 5 or 6 years. Even though they’re rated for 90 mph on an open trailer it is pretty much trashed. I’m going naked from now on!

Are there any covers/skins out there to protect a bike on an open trailer?

Not that I'm aware of. I've never covered mine on my chariot style trailer when I've had to haul the bike. Like other's have said, the material will flap and screw up the paint.

I would not cover.  As others have said it will flap and rub which will damage the paint.

All good advice to avoid covering.  That will do more permanent damage than anything you are likely to encounter!

Take your windshield off to reduce drag;get some heavy duty cling wrap, like you use for freezer, and cover your fairing, front of saddlebags, and front of lowers.
Just a little will do wonders, you don't need to wrap the whole bike, just the front facing surfaces.

I have used a Geza Gear cover for the last 5 or 6 years.

I have looked at this brand for open trailers, contacted them for more info. It's like a wrap but a cover that is more snug.

I still wouldn't trust that Brian. If you get one, take a leaf blower to it and see what happens after a few seconds and then multiply the force of that leaf blower by about 10 and the time by howeverlong it will take to get from point A to point B. I'd look for a chariot style trailer like my Aluma mc10 or figure out a way to build a protective guard on the front of the trailer you're using for the trip. Hell, if you were closer, I'd let you borrow mine.

I just bought a 12 x 6'10" aluminum trailer, was looking at the Aluma but so pricey for no more than I will be hauling my bike. IF the weahter is dry I am not concerned but.................

Or get ur bike 3m’d https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/c/films-sheeting/surface-protection-materials/films/i/automotive/post-factory-installations/ makes cleaning a breeze too.

I hear ya. Bought my Aluma back in 2015 and it's either a '13 or '14 leftover so I got it for a nice price because the newer ones had the self storing ramp. Things have damn near doubled in the last 9 years.

definitely,no cover! seen a friends paint after being covered for 1550 miles. heavy damage and scuffing to paint. open trailer is not good with a cover.
