The Devil's Hwy, Arizona.....the best ride in Arizona!
« on: December 25, 2024, 10:03:44 AM »

Can we do to in 5 days?

SDCVO Just to be clear, I'm talking about the Devil's Hwy loop.  It's a two day round trip from my home back to my home......the best ride in Arizona!
Tucson up to Fort Apache to Show Low to Eagar for the night.  300 Miles  5 1/2 hrs. of actual ride time......7 hrs. with a few stops along the way.

The next morning is the best part of this ride!  Through Alpine (it's over 8,000' in Alpine), Morenci, Safford Willcox, back here.  300 Mi. and 6 Hrs. of actual ride time (a little longer due to all the twisties on the Devil's Hwy.)......7 1/2 hrs. with a few stops.

A day for you to ride over here and a day for you to ride back home.....it's four days of long, hard riding for you.  Or........I'm always available to come and get your bike and ride it back here and you fly in and out, like we did before?  Then it would be a two day ride for you.  Your call?

There are a few YouTube videos of the Devil's Hwy ride.  This one is going the opposite direction of what I laid out in my post above.  Can be done in either direction and I've done both several times.

One of the things that you'll notice in any of the videos is the lack of other traffic!  You're pretty much out there by yourself and the wildlife.

We've rode it as early as late April but May would probably be better to assure no snow.  I have another Colorado ride planned for June.  You're welcome to join us on that one again, if you'd like?  But Devils Hwy. we should do late April at earliest, preferably in May.  What works for you?

It uses to be Hwy 666 the reason  it was named devils hwy.  It's now Hwy 191.  Rode it several years back with several people in my club.  We went south Springerville to Morenci.  Its about 117 miles if I remember correctly.  Its all curves and nothing between the two towns.  First time in my life I was tired of curves.  We went back two years later in 2019 to ride it north, Morenci to Springerville.  I prefer going north but either way is a fantastic ride.

Morenci is the Largest Copper mine in the USA, and 3rd largest in the world in 2019.

I agree, My wife and I road it south. You are right we stopped a few times to rest from all the curves. Seems like not many people know of this great ride.

It is a great ride. I did it several years ago and it never fails to impress.
