Should I Buy A New Harley Davidson ?
« on: February 07, 2025, 02:30:32 PM »

Buying a new motorcycle this year and my options are BMW K1600 Grand American ( closest dealer is 3 hours away so not practical ), 2024 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited (leftover, last model year), Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT (probably a 2024 leftover) or 2025 Indian Pursuit Limited.

Had a 2023 Gold Wing DCT Tour last year that got totaled after a deer incident. Not sure if I want to test my luck with another, although it probably is the best choice.

Still have my 2004 CVO to scratch that HD itch.

Rode the Pursuit last year and looked them over good. I feel that although the drivetrain and suspension are superior to HD, the fit and finish does not measure up to HD and the bike I am looking at is close to $40,000.00. And as a buddy says " Dude, its a Polaris ".

So what do I do, flip a coin ?

None of those are a reason to buy a Harley.

Your money pal, you gotta make that call. If you like the leftover Limited and the deal is good, go for it although it's probably going to feel like you overspent after having that Wing. Another Wing is not a bad choice either, you had one, you know what it's like and how it compares to the Limited. That snowmobile on two wheels is not something I'd even consider for the points you mentioned already. Fit and finish, they suck. I've seen more than one that just looks like it was slapped together and when things start rattling loose and coming unglued in under 5k miles they owners have wished they would not have gotten them. My brother's Dark Horse Chieftan is one of those. Can't believe it looking at that bike that they get delivered in the shape some of them do.

All I can say is that my 2023 ultra limited is quite amazing, and I imagine the 24 model is a tad better! Still a Harley but refined. My wife calls it “the sewing machine” because it doesn’t have the raw “mechanicalness” of the old Softail which was loud, spat and hissed, and nowhere near as comfortable (but somehow more lovable)

Thanks
Pauly

I strayed once from Harley - never again. I went with a '19 Goldwing. Great bike nothing wrong with it mechanically but the thing has no pizzaz to me. I owned it for a year and sold it off and went back to a Harley. There are a lot of deals to be had on the 2024 models. Even lots of CVOs.
So yes you should buy another Harley Davidson if you need to ask. :orange:

I went through this last year.
Ended up buying a new 2023 StreetGlide while I waited for new Ultras or limited's to come out.
My main deciding factor was the larger network of Harley dealers. I ride through several western states and have had to go to a dealer for repairs, oil changes, etc. Still like the looks of a Harley best; so, maybe I'm biased.

The Goldwing is the best Handling, best suspension of the bikes you list.  Its the most reliable also.  It is incredibly smooth.  With all that mentioned it does have  any soul or reach out and grab me.

BMW has great handling and suspension and power.  Reliability is not up there with Honda.  I would pick the Wing over the BMW.

Indian challenger rides nice.  Suspension is better than Harley, power is slightly better than Harley.  Fit, finish and quality its dead last.

Harley has the very best looks.  For me the seating position is best on a Harley.  Power is pretty good, suspension is okay. Reliability now days is good, but not Goldwing good.  The Harley is a good choice, they have the widest dealer network.  Harley is the easiest to make your own.

I have considered the Wing.  It is a better motorcycle than the Harley.  That said, it doesn't have the curb appeal of a Harley.  The Wing doesn't have soul and character like the Harley.  Little boys dream of having a Harley, not a Wing.

So I chose another CVO Road Glide

I had a few Indian and always had a lot more trouble finding a buyer when it came time for a new bike . Half the time the Indian dealer didn't want it or gave me a number 2 grand under wholesale . Over the years my Harleys were a lot easier to sell. Indian also was a lot more trouble and expense to put personal upgrades on and the choices were limited . Good luck,
these are good problems to have

It's your money. I can never understand why people seek the opinions of those they don't know on what is very much a subjective issue. None of the bikes you list are bad. There are literally hundreds of video reviews of each of these bikes posted on YouTube. With all of that, however, there is no substitute for your test ride. Only you know what's really important to you. Is it Harley style (and price) and dealer network? Honda farkles? Or German engineering? Whatever you buy, you're probably going to make some changes. We all do.

What a wonderful problem to have!  :huepfenjump3:
