What is it with apple carplay? So my wife has a 2023.5 CVO Streetglide. Also has an apple iPhone 16. Phone is updated as well as bike has the latest HD update too.

But apple car play is the most inconsistent irritating program. Many times it won't load from beginning. It drops all the time. And yes every time it drops out you have to restart bike then reconnect etc.........To me there is nothing user friendly about it. I have researched  and read about carplay, making it work, making it work with Harley until my eyes are bleeding. I can't find the magic bullet to make it consistently work. Is this just the best that it will ever be?

It seemed to work better for a short period of time right after the most recent sizeable update from Harley. But that didn't last long.

Conversely, I'm a Android guy. I have a 2021 CVO Streetglide with the older GTS radio. I also have an older Samsung S21 phone. And I must say Android Auto works flawlessly for me. It rarely I mean very rarely drops out. And if it does drop it will reconnect itself on its own. No shutting down bike for restart, no rebooting the phone etc.

So what's the deal? Why does Android Auto work so well and Apple Carplay suck?

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, idea and input as to what I may be doing wrong related to Carplay.

That sucks and to make it worse, your wife's bike didn't even come with Android Auto limiting your options.
Edit: Apparently this is a common problem. A Google search showed youtube videos on how to fix. Good luck

The latest Skyline OS helped with my iPhone 13 Pro Max for a while.  But yes it sometimes doesn't load when you start the bike.  It drops out while riding. It really is not reliable.  It is not the phone.  I say this as never had an issue in my 18 Corvette, my 22 Raptor or my wife's 22 Grand Cherokee.

I got a new iPhone 16 Pro Max last Monday.  In have not had a chance to ride the my 2023.5 CVO yet, rain every day but one.

My 23 Street Glide and 24 Road Glide 3 both have the GTS radio. I installed the jumper and a wireless connector and both hook up flawlessly to my I-Phone 13. I have heard the Skylink is problematic.

No one has a jumper for the Skylline OS.  The head units are totally different.

This post may offer another, less expensive option that also doesn’t occupy an accessory circuit under the seat….  It also stays “live” when the engine starts  if you’ve
“linked up” when the accessory circuits lose power as the engine turns over.

I have now rode twice with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.  It so far seems to be more reliable connection than the iPhone 13 Pro Max was. It has not dropped out while riding.

I spoke too soon.  Rode 99 miles yesterday.  Carplay dropped out twice.  First time it restarted by just unplugging and plugging phone back in.  Second time I had to shut off bike for a couple minutes and restart.

It has to be in the bike Skyline OS as it works perfect in my Bronco, corvette and wife's Cherokee.

If I recieve a phone call the music dosen't come back on.  Only way to get it back on is make another phone call.

Now I'm not pro or con iPhone or android. I'm pro what works hassle free. This is the first time I have heard of someone having issues with CarPlay in an automobile.  Yes, CarPlay is a major pain in the Ass with the Skyline OS.  One day it will work flawlessly all day.  The next day you might have 3 or four issues.  Then it can get really frustrating on a group ride.

Dave, thanks. As my wife said she's glad to hear she ain't alone. We do alot of group rides with our local HOG chapter. But my wife and I are the only ones using headsets along with carplay and android auto. So it only gets real irritating between us.

Dave what headset are you using if I may ask? We are using the Harley branded cardo packtalk edge and are having a hell of a time getting them to work properly.

I am using the Harley Branded Sena 50S.  The headset always pairs easily with the bike.  It's only dropped out once that I can remember.

Phone and Headset are to be paired to the bike.  Do not pair phone and headset.
