M8 generic issued
« on: July 04, 2025, 11:05:14 AM »

Just asking, I have the oil migration from gearbox to primary chain case issue which I will sort myself. Are there any other M8 issues like there was with 110 twin cam, that is. Lifters, bore wear ( more accurately oil consumption), excessive heat.
I have 26k miles, so far ok, except maybe the clutch grabs when trying to slip for slow speed turning.

I also have a 2019 CVO with the same issues you mentioned on your bike.
The oil migration is common from 2017 and up. Harley did a recall in 2019 with a vent hose kit they installed under warranty.
All the touring bikes now have this vent hose kit installed at the factory. It takes care of the oil transfer. Harley will sell you the kit, or you can make your own.

You may notice clutch problems due to the incorrect oil levels that also affect the transmission (lack of oil).
The hyd clutch problems are cured with a change of the hyd slave cylinder (AIM or Muller are good options) This will allow a wider “friction zone” at the lever and smoother engagement.

The heat issue usually is a non issue due to liquid cooling. Most of the heat you would feel comes from the catalyst in the exhaust header. Easily fixed.

Overall, the engine is pretty stout, good lower end, nice heads, good power.
I have upgraded my 2019 to 124 “ for more torque and HP and it has been very reliable at over 100000 miles.

I hope this answers some of your concerns.

My 2019 Limited only needed the primary vent to stop trans fluid migration. Smooth and quiet when I traded it at 49k miles.
