Knee Replacement
« on: December 11, 2025, 07:37:54 AM »

My wife is having Knee Replacement surgery this morning at 10:00 am.  Please say a prayer.  I am really more worried about the recovery.  The amount of movement and PT required is a lot.  I'm worried she will not push though it all.  The exercise and PT is key to success and full range of motion.

I had both of my knees done 2 weeks apart.

You are right a motivated patient during recovery following the exercises and walking right away wil substantially reduce recovery time.

In the end she will look back and say why did I wait so long?  The quality of her life is going to greatly improve.

Very best wishes for a rapid recovery!

Merry Christmas

Dave, you're correct about the recovery. The patient has a lot to do with the overall success. Prayers sent.

Dave, it is scary from all the horror stories you hear.  I had bilateral total knee replacement done three months apart a few years back.  Yes the first few days are not fun and the first couple weeks of PT aren't either.  But I predict that you and she will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly she improves.  Of course as said the key is to do the PT.  Once healed she'll wonder why she ever put it off.  All the best.

Her first Physical Therapy went well yesterday.  Next two weeks she will have PT Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  She is doing the home exercises she is supposed to be doing.  Hopefully she will continue to stay positive and work though the pain and discomfort.

My wife had knee repair surgery 6 months ago, it took about 3 months before she became 100%. Now she can hike, climb stairs, walk all day with no pain. It’s wonderful what they can do these days.

That is good to hear Kojak.  Come spring she will be very anxious to get back on her Road Glide.  The walking and stairs will be great. She couldn't walk a 1/4 mile with out pain prior to surgery.
