Ok, I just got off the phone with the service manager (who also is, btw a HD Master Tech).

He said their standard procedure is to always replace head gaskets in pairs, always inspect cylinders and pistons for scoring/oil staining and clean or replace when appropriate.

He said they have not seen this 110 gasket problem as of yet but it is easy to miss unless you are looking for it or you have had a major blowout.

He also said that they have seen alot of TMAXs and was aware of their re-init procedure on battery removal.

He was very professional and answered all of my question and assured me that the bike would be fixed to their high standards (hence their reputation) and thanked me for bringing my bike to them for warranty service even though I bought it somewhere else.

Ok - I feel better now and my sphincter is loosened a little... :P    10 days and counting.

Would still like to know the part number....

The head gaskets are  P/N 16801-07A.

Thanks Hard10!

OK, mine is "fixed" now.  They only did the rear head and used part #16801-07A.  Hopefully it will last.

Well, add Hoist to the list. when he got to the house yesterday, I gave his bike a once-over and noticed he also has oil starting to leak at the same spot. It's not bad, and won't cause him any problems, but it's definitely there.

Does it look like what we've ween here previously?  Not as bad/worse?  What a pizzer.  Hope he is ok for the balance of the Pick Up Ride.

His, like mine is more of a seepage. You can see it on the edge of the head gasket, it's black and not silver like it should be. His has seeped a little bit more than mine, as it has gotten onto the crinkle paint a bit.

I don't think it will affect his ride home at all.

Mine goes in tomorrow for new gaskets.

Got mine back on Friday May 11.  They had to order the revised gaskets from HD which caused a 7 day delay...  they said it is "best practice" to ALWAYS replace both head gaskets at the same time.

They also replaced the cracked AN air filter plate with SE Chrome plate.  Was returned washed and not a new scratch on the bike.

Republic HD took extra effort to make sure I was happy about the work they did on my scoot -- what a relief!

Marl, so glad to hear your work there was good.

Do you know what the shange is in the revised gasket?

The Tech who briefed me on the work he did and what he saw during tear down said that it appears to him that it is significantly thicker than the old one.  He didn't mention if the holes provided for oil passage were any different as discussed previously in our forums.  He said that HD had requested the old gaskets back in order to complete some sort of failure analysis.....

Spoke with Howie on the phone an hour or so ago as he was getting settled in to Traxxion Dynamics for his stay there today.  Unfortunately he's apparently next in line on the 110 head gasket problem.  He's got a leaker too.

Just returned from the dealer doing the tear-down to fix the oil seep on the rear head. The tech had also noticed a weep at the cylinder base, so new o-rings there too.

I looked at the rocker box and sure enough, the valve spring retainer had been hitting the rocker box and has put a nice divit into the box. They'll clean that one up. I need to make sure they pop the top off the front and clearance that one too.

I'm sure this will help eliminate some of the top end noise I was getting.

One thing I forgot to mention. The oil seepage was worst around the oil return hole, but the gasket was wet in a lot of places.

I'm also following up on some information posted on the TC88 Yahoo group that the MoCo stated the problem is from porous jugs. Nothing concrete at this point, but this isn't the first time I've heard the porosity reason for the leaks. Hopefully I'll be able to get a TSB or other reference info.

EDIT:

I just spoke to the SM at the dealer and he stated they clearanced the rocker boxes for both intake valves due to them hitting. I'm really looking forward to a quieter top end.

Got the bike back this afternoon. New rear head gasket, new cylinder base o-ring, oil-return o-ring and clearanced both rocker boxes.

I didn't realize how much noise those pesky springs were making. I would say about 80% of the top end noise is gone now.

I am very pleased. Now we'll just have to wait and see how long the gasket lasts.

I am with you guys, just noticed the seeping on my rear head gasket at just over 5K miles.
Now to find a good dealer here in North Carolina that will take care of me.

I will need them to do the rocker boxes too, because my engine is way too loud up top and sure would be nice to have it quiet like yours now Chief!
