Should also add this upgrade (Lifetime Maps) will upgrade/update the copy of Mapsource (to 6.15.5) on your computer ...

I did the Mac install, which didn't force any other installations.  Mapsource is not available on Macs, but Garmen produces a similar program for Mac users called "RoadTrip."  It's very much the same, just looks more "Mac-Like," if you know what I mean.  I don't think it has any more or less functionality.

After installing the 2010 map update I noticed that the 2008 version was still installed.  Does anyone know if you still need the 2008 version?  Its a large program about 1.3 GB. I would like to uninstalled the 2008 version.

Both, when I powered on the Zumo I still received the message that my map was over a year old, and on my laptop I have 2008 and 2010 map programs.  I did transfer the new map program to the zumo.  When I view map info I see checked
City navigator north america NT 2008 [1] northern new england, maryland, virginia.
CN North America NT 2010.10 [1] CN loser 49 states + PR NT 2010.10.
Also nice to have the unit ask for a pin when it powers on, Thanks for the tip!

I'll have to go check the Zumo itself (it's on the bike), but I thought when I updated it was only showing the 2010 map there. As for the old maps on the computer I think I remember reading on the Zumo forum that it was alright to remove them, but I would check there before doing it. With most computer HD's been multi GB unless you're hurting for space I personally wouldn't worry about it. :nixweiss:

As for the PIN you're welcome. :2vrolijk_21:

Just went and checked on my Zumo and I have..

CN North America NT 2010.10

and under that

"[ I ] All"

Did a search on the Zumo Forum using "Removing Maps" and "Motorcycle Mama" as the poster and one of her posts states the new maps should overwrite the old ones on the Zumo. Another of her posts say other then freeing up HD space there is really no need to remove the old maps from computer (Mapsource). Just make sure when you create maps on Mapsource you are using the most up to date map (same as on the Zumo) so the routes will not recalculate when loading or cause conflicts.

I found the following on the Zumo Forum that appears it may be similar to what you have..

I have a similar issue/question.  I live in MN and from the Zumo 550 I was trying to enter an address for WI.  To my surprise it only brought up two cities.  Further tests and it didn’t even see other states.  I went into the map info screen and found this:

Deselecting the older map that just says Minnesota seems to have corrected it.  but why is it there to begin with?  and why just Minnesota?  I did recently upgrade the map.  Why dont I have the 3s one like above?  :'(

any thoughts would be appreciated.

You don't have the 3d Map listed 'cos the 550 doesn't have 3d - that's new with the 660's.

The Minnesota map that you show is a supplemental map that, for some reason, you've imported at some time. You need to go into the Garmin folder in the Zumo and delete the gmapsupp files (these are the additional maps that you don't need).

wow that was it.  Thanks very much.
I can't verify this as a fix because I've never had this problem I would suggest before you delete any files you totally back up your Zumo to the HD on you computer. Let us know if this works.

Just got off the phone with Garmin, you must have the Zumo connected to the computer.  Call the 800 number above, option 1 (auto) and have a tech support transfer you to a level 2 support tech (no direct number) and they will remote into your computer to delete the correct map files.  Tech said having both maps on the Zumo could cause memory errors and also give you duplicates. I did receive a message that the new map exceeded the memory on my unit.

Wait time today was terrible, I will try tomorrow at home with the unit connected and post the results.

Scott,
Any particular reason you loading them on an SD card vs the Zumo itself?

Cause if I make a mistake, I can just format the card and start over without fear of screwing up any files....  I am barely competent with these things, so it's insurance against self inflicted damage....   ???

If it's working for you then I wouldn't change. I'm more comfortable at 'puter stuff... sorta like you w/wrenches, so I've always loaded directly. Only thing that I can see that could go wrong is if that SD card was lost, corrupted, etc while away from home then you wouldn't have the latest maps. Any routes you've created w/Mapsource w/the new maps might not be good with the original (old) maps in the Zumo. But... on the other hand the unit itself could go tits up and you not be able to use it while away from home. :nixweiss:

I'm all for doing what's comfortable (ummm.. remember hinges ;)) so if your method has been working stick w/it. :2vrolijk_21:
