Thanks Gary.  Knew I remembered some issue of mono output with a Zumo cradle or mount.  Was too long ago to swear on a stack what it was though.  Your post just made me go look to see for sure what was what.  Car cradle that comes with them has a mono speaker for its output.

You're a Zumo owner.  How does it work out in a vehicle without an aux input or CD player to run the various interfaces through?  Does the unit's FM transmitter work well enough to get by with?
I've only used it in the cage once. My truck has a CD player, and cassette player. I had thought about getting one of those cassette converter things that has the 3.5 plug on one end, and what appears to be a cassette on the other. The kind you can plug into the Zumo and the other end goes in the cassette player and you can have the music/Navigation come thru radio in vehicle. If I start using it more in the truck I may think about getting one of those, but now just don't see the need.

There is a Zumo/FLHT installation procedure here that will answer your connection (and other) questions: http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=226.0

Installed my Zumo today using the recommendations made in this thread.  Thanks to all for providing valuable input.  Went with the cig lighter for power and Terry's recommendation to use a Sealink 12v marine type plug.  I haven't seen anyone use a switch housing mount, so here are some pics of my install using one made by Leader Motorcycle Products.  There are a couple of features I like about this mount, 1) it's chrome, 2) you can easily remove cradle/GPS in entirety for security purposes and 3) adaptors are available to mount cell phone/Blackberry (per photo) or cup holder, etc. using same mount.  I highly recommend the product.

I have been comtemplating a Bluetooth earpiece to hear voice commands, something that would be comfortable under a half or 3/4 helmet.  I am considering the Motorola Mini H9 which is designed like a hearing aid ear bud, minimal protrusion so it looks like it would not interfere with a helmet or wearing sunglasses with a helmet.  However, after riding around today I don't know if I need it.  Screen is easy to glance at and read map/directions.  School is still out, but has anyone used the Motorola Mini H9 with their GPS?

Pete,
Great job, looks great. :2vrolijk_21: Not sure if you know about these - Custom caps (flames & carbon fiber), but the flame ones look great w/the paint on our bike. IMO.

Gary,

Thanks, considering the flames, maybe the race stripes!  Loaded the POI update file OK, but am having trouble with the HD POI file.  POI Loader won't recognize the directory.  I must have screwed something up in downloading and saving the HD POI file from the link.

Pete,
Make sure you don't have it buried to deep into to many folders. I've known of instances when data has been in to many subfolders that some programs will not recognize them. I have my POI's in "\My Documents\Points Of Interest\H-D Dealers All" and have no problems loading them. If that's not the case then you may want to try d/l them again.

Pete, it's not a direct comparison but if the Zumo screen output is anything like the 2620s was the audio prompts really are redundant.  The visual prompts were almost intuitive as to when they displayed and what they displayed.  Used mine without audio for a long time and never missed it when it wasn't there.

Don, I agree.  Once you set the detail level and scale functions (zoom in/out), the Zumo is very intuitive, took me about 30 minutes to get it dialed in, so I don't think I need the audio prompts.  Besides my exhaust is so loud, need to be a visual learner anyway!

Whomever at Garmin was responsible for that software was definitely having a good day.  One of the peculiarities of the 2820 was that it came out of the box preset to a new (to me) faux 3d display mode.  Made it look like an aerial cartoon rather than anything approaching a grid or other map display.  The 2620s display was actually easier to read as a map.  But the 28xx in it's 2D mode is almost as good.  The 3D option is very obviously a "looks cool" concession to a larger public audience that could never read a map to begin with.

I highly recommend not forgoing the audio prompts.  Last year while trying to get through LA on the freeways the prompts told me what side of the road to be on and, when changes came fast and furious I was able to keep eyes on the road.

Also there are instances when you forget to look.  My 2
