Mr. d00d (or anyone else who knows) - is there a reliable, easy to use file converter for converting MS Streets & Trips files into Garmin files?

If so, is there a link on how to use it (with step by step info for the semi computer literate)?

I just created a map in MS Streets and Trips 2008, converted it to GPX format using GPSBabel 1.3.5, and put it on my Zumo 550. It looks like it works. At this point I'm just viewing the route on the Zumo so... I'm not sure about any level of detail or features available or not available. But I'm hopefull! I can see all of my waypoints. It's an easy process too.

Bret,
Thanks for the info. :2vrolijk_21: For those that might want to try the program mentioned here is the website - GPSBabel. Let us know how it works once you use it on a trip.

Bret, thanks so much. I too hate MapSource and use MS Streets and Trips, a much better mapping program. :2vrolijk_21:

Bret,

Thank you very much.  Have a bro who uses GPS Babel as a S & T converter & never understood how it converted until your step-by-step instructions.  Will use this on the next trip - most appreciated!  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks, I'm happy to contribute where I can. GPSBabel is new to me too. I'll be looking into it more and pass along whatever I discover. It has the user interface that I showed in the example. It's the simplest to use and I did that because someone said they weren't very computer literate. It also has some command line options that might be usefull for certain situations so thats what I'll be looking into next. Let me know if you run into situations where it's not doing what you want or expect. I was just really excited about it because I've been doing everything twice, once in S&T and then again in MapSource.

Excellent tips guys!  Thanks!  I have a trip that I did in ST 2007 and figured I'd have to just let the Zumo remap it...if I can do it myself it will save time...thanks!

Anyone know, is there an update or file to change the voice to something more "normal" vs. sounding like a computer???

There are several available at www.garmin.com in downloads depending on which model GPS you have.

I think it's just the nature of the beast. That's where the technology is right now. It's a lot better than it used to be but we're not there yet.
You could get a BSR to listen and then tell you the directions. "Hey you were suppose to turn right there."

Think you are right.  I'm used to the basic "right turn / left turn" announcments but when you add the street names, etc. guess it is doing the best it can.

After flipping through 36 pages here, and reading the Zumo owners manual, I still can't make heads or tails whether these things will capture a driven route that you can download and share?
