Twolanerider, Regarding your original post it apparantly is possible to add the tour pak speaker pods because I have them on my 04 FLHTCSE. It was not without a certain amount of minor drama however. When I originally purchased the kit I attempted to install them myself and was unsuccesful at getting them to work. I went back to the dealer and asked them to verify whether or not this kit would work on my bike due to the difference in the radio head units between the SE and the Ultra. They said it would so I had them install it. It works great! A good sounding stereo (for a bike), now sounds great even at 80 on the highway.

Good to know that it's been done.  I've looked at a wiring diagram for the bike and a schematic for the radio since I'd originally posted (a guy can't stay lazy forever) and there's really not much on the bike to begin with that shows anyone had adding them in mind.  But, like most things, with a little effort and perhaps a little more ingenuity there's not much that couldn't be done.

SB welcome to the site.  Can you tell us which dealership and the techs name who did the work.  Radio Sound, (the people who design and build all HD sound systems) wrote and told us it can't be done without over heating the amp and burning it out pre-maturely.  I sure hope that is not a "yet" for you.  How long have you had the quad stereo?  Do you have balance and seperation like on the Ultra Classics?

SB welcome to the site.  Do you have the info on the rear speakers and how to wire.  Or can you tell us who to contact.

Well here's what little I know. The dealership is Bigg's in San Marcos, CA. The service writers I dealt with were Kirby & Chris. I don't know the tech's name, he probably told me when we spoke but I was so underwhelmed with his attitude that I filed it under

Does anyone know if the 04 and 05 bikes use the same audio systems?  Perhaps the 04s use the standard Glide radio so has options the 05s don't?  Don't know but it's at least a thought.  When I finally broke out a diagram for the bike and schematic for the radio it's obvious you could put rear spearkers on the system.  But it'd only be using 8 ohm speakers front and bike in parallel as someone had suggested here previously.  Of course you'd have no separate volume or balance controls that way.  But it'd at least work....

Hey J Rud,
Has the dealer given you a shipment date on the Yellow Bannana ?

The 04's and the 05's use the same part # for the radio so yes they are the same.  Do you have a part # for what was installed?

Thanks, to all for the kind welcome [smiley=beerchug.gif].

The part number for the speaker kit I used was 77167-98.

Something I forgot to mention in my earlier posts was that the separate volume and mode control DO work on this set up. Perhaps the only issue with it not working, based on the info from Radio Sound, is the fact that the SE unit uses 4 ohm speakers and use of this kit brings the load down to 2 ohm, which would overwork an amp not designed for such use. If so, perhaps swapping out the speakers for 8 ohm units would solve the problem [smiley=nixweiss.gif].

That's what I was afraid of.  That kit really isn't designed to work with the radios that are in (at least) the 05 SEEGs.   Making it play and having it reliable for the long term unfortunately aren't the same thing.

For that matter for what that kit costs (up around $420) one could buy a nice Sony with XM capability that would already have balance and fade built right in to the radio.  With the couple of hundred bucks left you could then start buying a pair of speaker pods, speakers, and that kit from some company whose name I know forget that ties our handlebar controls in to the wired speaker connection on the Sony radios.  The setup would be more capable and have far less involved in the new wiring and hardware in the rear.

Agreed. If I had found this board and the great info on it before I purchased the XM and rear speakers I probably would have gone that route. But then knowing myself I probably would get carried away and turn the tour pak into a sub enclosure. I have a sickness when it comes to audio and/or video equipment. The closer I stay to stock, the better for my wallet and my marriage.
