saddlebag lid spoiler wiring
« on: May 05, 2007, 08:19:21 PM »

Installed the saddlebag lid spoiler lights on my '06 B/C CUSE. Question: does anyone know how to wire them? The standard instructions have you plug the new harness into the accessory plug under the seat (which currently powers the heated seat). I tried unplugging the seat and plugging the new lights into the acc. plug just to test them before I got a "Y" adapter. The lights don't work and I didn't think they would anyway because the seat is just fed a hot and a ground, and is always "on", not controlled by acc. switch. I tested the lights by touching leads to the battery and both running and brake lights function. Obviously, I have to get into a light and brake circuit. I went to the local H-D and they seemed baffled. They think I have to wire into the tail light. I don't think so. Searched for threads here, but could not find anything on target.

I think the plug you want is by the frame ground lugs.  Think it's a gray four pin plug.

The accessory plug is usually located in front of the battery. The heated seat plug is on the left side of the battery. The accessory plug carries brake and run power in it too, as well as stuff from the ACC switch.

look in the same area. you will find another identical connector that should have a black rubber plug in it, this is the accessory connector.
the one your seat was connected into is only for the seat.

Unless your heated seat is plugged into the accessory plug, which several members have found to be the case.  Does your accessory switch have to be on for your heated seat to work?  If so, find the other plug - same type plug located in the same area - and plug the heated seat into it.  Then plug your wiring for your spoiler lights into the accessory plug.

Eureka! You are exactly correct. Needed a flashlight to find it, it was buried. All hooked up and working, thanks to the replies. I knew I'd find an answer here.

What are the saddle bag lid spoiler lights?  Just curious because on my '06 flhtcuse I'm a bit nervous about the lack of lighting from the back end.  Trying to figure out a way to make it a bit safer.  Got any links?  Pics?

Thanks

Sorry, I don't have a pic :worthless:!! I can get some soon. I know you can find some pictures if you use the search function, which is what I did when trying to solve my problem. H-D Parts and Acc. should have a pic of the saddlebag spoilers that mount to the rear of the lid. Each has a strip with approx. 5-6 LED lights that function as running and brake lights. Like you, I felt I needed more light for the rear. The spoilers are available in the '06 CVO colors - I ordered mine this past Feb. You have to drill some holes in the saddlebag lids, but everything went together nicely. Once I found the wiring I needed (thanks everybody) it literally was a snap to install.

Found these lights at a custom cycle shop. Got them on but had the same question as you about where to connect them. Now I know! Thanks for posting your question.

What do you all think? Gaudy or Nice?
Also, found this LED Light bar that will fit nice under the trunk and only be noticable when brake lists come on.  :orange:

I have not seen those lights before - the ones on the side of the tourpak. Does it interfere with the button on the right side? I have seen several members put an led strip on the underside or across the back of the tourpak between the antennas. Even with the spoiler lights I am thinking of adding another light or lights such as that. I just realized, I posted this on the Electra Glide page, and not the Ultra page.

Hi cvTony,
Look at the thread "Lights on Ultra" I started last night. I was looking for information on where to tap the tail light and brake lights for these. They are Kury... Kurya... whatever. Someone posted the part number and pictures for me and even fixed the picture so that you don't strain a neck muscle looking at them. One dmn dathing leads to another dmn dathing! Someone posted a photo of a nifty rea fender light I need now! :P
