Ever Thought of Painting Yours?
« on: December 14, 2004, 08:21:54 AM »

Just found the site a few days ago...loads of information here.  Call me crazy, but I'm having my FLHRSEI2 painted over the winter, as well as numerous and significant performance upgrades. It's in the shop now.  I've come up with a paint scheme that saves enough of the gold paint that I won't have to have the frame painted; I think that the bike will still be identifiable as one of the limited edition CVO's, but it will have its own unique "look".  Can't wait to get it back.  Should go fast too!!  I was just wondering if I was the only one who ever considered painting a CVO?!

i know a few others that have done it. i would make a suggestion, if you could swing the price buy a new set of tins to have painted and put the original CVO set on a shelf, just looking at it from a resale value thing

I thought about it, but I decided to put that $$$ in the motor/transmission.  When it came down to it, I just couldn't justify sitting that paint set on a shelf.  May be sorry later, I don't know.

I also seen several '03 SERK's with the bags removed and replaced with the leather bags from a Road King Classic.  This gives another distinctive look.

If you are gonna paint it and mod the engine, why not just start over with a regular raod king?

The CVO is part of the uniqueness of the bike.  I could sell mine, buy a used king and spend the differentce on paint and upgrades.  The price would be real close.

Just an idea, but one that might save a lot of money and still allow you to save the original tins.  Keep an eye on eBay for awhile.  You will pretty regularly see individual fenders, tanks or bags go there for not too much money.  Certainly a ton less than buynig new pieces from the dealer.  In sets they often cost quite a bit more there.  But individually the prices can be pretty cheap.  Good luck.
