Low windshield
« on: May 21, 2007, 01:32:49 AM »

Who is using a low windshield?

I'm looking for something new. HD offers a dark one  @ 4" or a 6.5" smoked.

I'd like a smoked one.

TIA, AJ

I'm using the Fast Aire Aero, it has worked out well so far and I've been using it approximately a month......

One thing to consider when getting a shorter shield is wind buffeting around your helmet/face. For instance the stock windscreen that came on my bike was terrible for my height. The wind would hit me right at my glasses/helmet and was really uncomfortable.

AJ, if you're not interested in keeping the stock shield, it can be cut down to whatever size you want. Just a thought.

What I had in mind was a 'shortie' for around town driving and keeping the stock one for travels beyond.

This is a 8" that I have on mines. What's the height of your stock one, is it the same as an UC?

When I ran with the shortie Cindy bitched about her turbulance all the time.  I went with the Clearview with the Euro Lip at d00d's height and it's great.  I see over it a 6' and the wind can still get in my face enough to be good.

Since I enjoy having Cindy along I gave up on the shortie.  Besides this is her bike, she just let's me ride it when I don't want to ride the "bar bike" (which is most of the time).

Don't forget about Clearview too.
They make from 4.5" on up to 18" and you can get custom sizes too and clear ot tinted.

With the HD 6" unit (stock on the 05 SEEG's) I had a lot of buffeting. I then tried a 6" Clearview with the curve. It was much better but still some buffeting. I recently went to a Fastaire AERO in the 8" and really like it.

That's the size of the stock SEUC shield. What I was going for is a little shorter. Somthing like the one Hogbreath or 07CVO has.

Ok, I see what you're talking about now. That is similar to the windscreen that came stock on my bike. Have never met Ken so don't know about his height, but one thing to consider is the buffeting when you get the shorter windshields. So you have to consider your height when picking a windshield. To short a windshield is worse then not having any windshield at all, along with the normal air flow the shorter windshield will direct the air off the fairing right into your face also. You will be dealing with fighting the wind head on, and having the air flowing off fairing/windshield trying to blow your glasses/helmet/hat whatever off your face and head. If you plan on speeds over 30 MPH it's going to make a difference.

I just looked at picture below and can understand how Ken may be comfortable w/the short screen. I've met Howie and Don and know their height, and in the picture Ken looks about close to/same height. If I remember correctly you're a little taller, and this may make a difference in getting to short of a windshield.

AJ...I've still got the short smoked one that came on the 06 SEUC's.  I'll never use it again...if you want it, make me an offer.

I have a Clearview and will NEVER go back to a shield without a recurve.  The difference is huge.

TC, I may take you up on that. I guess the question is why will you never use it again? I'm about 6'0" and am just lookin' for something to 'try' out. ? Does that make sense? Or am I just wasting my breath?
