It's going in on Fri and no parts will be ordered until crank runout is checked. If it's excessive, it's new engine time. If not, we'll do the repairs/mods as previously discussed. Gets me to thinking. Anyone know if HD has made any changes to new 110 engines to prevent the issues we're having? I've heard of .008" runout on new, unrun engines. How does this resolve anything? They have 07A P/N on Head Gasket now. Fine. What about Rocker Boxes. Are they properly clearanced now? How do I insure that a new motor is actually a new and improve version than the POS motors we have now? Hoist!
Howie, have to admit having wondered the same thing relative to the unlucky souls who have suffered engine failures so far. The only thing that has come to mind would be if a warranty replacement is built for the warranty failure rather than just pulled off the line and VIN stamped. If it's built to meet a warranty order then, perhaps, the hands building will be doing some tolerance checking that isn't done in more massed production.
Honestly I think that's doubtful. I more likely hope is that the failures to date have translated in to tighter tolerance checking for mass production itself. But it is Harley Davidson. So who really knows for sure
