Jock, that sounds like a most fun way to spend a weekend.  Sounds like you had a blast.  Love the report and the pics. Congrats on your new toy.

Haven't been able to get Jock's trip out of my head.  Sounds like a righteous playground.  Going to have to do this sometime sooner rather than later.

Just checked out the link you provided, Jock...That little store has been there for years, in a steady state of decline until now.  Glad to see someone has made something out of it and a VERY good thing to boot.  I will definitely be checking this out in July.  For 100 bucks, a day of riding through the backwoods of that area is a no brainer.  Thanks for the link!!

Bob,

You are only a little over an hour away from some good riding in your area too.

Jock,

Were you referring to any place specific?  A place to rent bikes and ride?

Amazing and it takes on another perspective for the area.

Jock, with the various summer and fall travel plans already booked I don't know when I'm going to do it.  But I know that I will.  Whenever it's going to happen I'll give you some notice.  With any luck you'll have time to take that new bike you bought and have some more fun.

Great report Jock. I cut my teeth on off road bikes - this trip looked like a blast.

Thanks for posting the pics.

As promised, here is a picture of the bike I bought after this ride...

Notice anything?  Not a single piece of chrome to polish on the entire bike!!!

Finally I have a bike I can spend MORE time riding and NO time cleaning.

Hey Jock,
The Goverment is putting diesel motors in those frames and getting 140 mpg out of them for the special forces.
I`ll try and find a link.

Here is one and there are more. The area you were in is where I grew up. I wore out and Allstate  125 in those mountains. That was back when the Cherohala parkway was gravel and one lane. It stopped at the NC line Just after Rattle Snake rock.  A lot of the fire roads in the area have been closed by the enviro groups but there`s still good riding on the NC side.

Jock I still have parts of me that hurt from my dirt bike days.  Add 21+ years of military service and two serious street bike accidents, and it begins to sting.  Pain like that sucks.  I'll stick to the asphalt.  :2vrolijk_21:

And that explains it...Thank you for your service to our country.  I for one appreciate it.
