21 Beer Salute to Memorial Day
« on: May 28, 2007, 01:02:17 PM »

Well the 1st annual Beer Tasting Festival, combined with the San Diego Pool Society's Season Opener at Spiderman's house was a 21 Beer salute to Memorial Day. We had a good turnout of folks, all but one couple who ride and had as our guest of honor a 91 yr old Vet and former San Diego Police Sgt. Jack's in pretty good shape for 91. Sharp as a tack and regalled us with stories of pretty much the entire 20th century of California history. Beagle left all the cooking to me and now I see why he loves my split 55 gallon barrel grillin machine. Dudes you think your 110's get hot. Spend an hour next to that grill. I don't have a hair left on my arms. S'anyway, a good time was had by all and as one would expect there is no photographic evidence as some of the attendees tend to be camera shy. Here's a listing of the beers on hand however

The Lost Abbey - - - - Red Barn Ale
Chimay Grand Reserve Ale
Bokrijks Kruikenbier - - - -- Porter
Unibroue 15th Anniversary Ale
Duvel Begian Golden Ale
Franboise Lambic Beligian Framboise Beer ( beer with raspberries - - - - yum)
J.W.Dundee's Honey Brown
New Belgian Brewing Company Fat Tire
Gorden Biersch Marzen
Karl Straus Amber Lager
Guiness Draft
Negra Modelo
Hofbrau Munchen Maibock
Kona Brewing Company Longboard Island Lager
Anderson Valley Brewing Company BOONT Amber Ale
Green Flash Brewing Company  Nut Brown Ale
Shipyard Export Ale
Rogue's     Dead Gun Ale
Drake's     Hefe-Weizen
Full Sale   IPA
Orangeboom Lager

No offense to the folks in Golden Colorado, but we used Coors Light as a rinse between the list above.

All in all a good selection of interesting beers. Mixed with plenty of food, good company, San Diego sunshine and a the biggest private pool in North County and we had a great day. Hope to get on LD with Mrs Spiderman and head to the coast for a bit today

SPIDERMAN,

What a great "salute" list you had there. I'm sure our fallen Hero's enjoyed it just as well.

BB - One of my friends makes a great home brew version of that Kona.  Sounds like a great time & lots of great beer, food, & fun.  I chose Sierra Nevada Pale Ale this weekend when we arrived at our destination - about the only choice (only 1 - 6 pack of Warsteiner left in the local beer sales establishment which would have been my fallback).

The list of beer selections was awesome.  Sure glad that everyone had a real good time.  Good way to kick off the summer - beer salute and BBQ with some great friends.
