It also depends on how you ride, these aren't crotch rockets! The stock shocks may leave something to be desired, but I'm not sure I'm ready to put down the $$$$$ for this upgrade or some of the other air systems. The progressive 440 are good enough for me, but again it's a personal preference and I ride solo most the time, and when I ride two up, it's not a big deal to change the setting if needed.

Talon,

I agree totally. For me, it all about carrying the load. 'Dialing it in' might be necessary for dragging knees, but not us. Like you said, you've got 440's and those are great shocks, the best shock option for our bikes for quite some time. I've got a pair about to go back to Progressive because they started to leak. By the way, if anyone can feel a 'clunk' in your Progressives, I'd bet my bottom dollar, you've got a leaker too. (103Thunder)

If you ride solo most of the time, I would agree the Progressives are probably your best bet.

No question about them being crotch rockets or not.  For me, suspension upgrades are not about trying to get the bike to handle like a sport bike, but rather more about comfortable riding, and more importantly, safety.  IMO, a bike whose front forks collapse, allow the wheels to bounce all over the road surface, and just generally provide nothing but negative feedback to the rider, is not a safe bike to be on, compared to another bike with better suspension.  We think nothing at all about spending well over 1K to get the motors to perform at a level that is acceptable to us, and a lot of people spend a great deal more than that.  It's all about making the bike the best IT can be, not trying to make it into a Ducati.

Certainly, unless you are vertically challenged like me (29" inseam), want the "slammed" look, or simply like to constantly have the ability to adjust the ride according to road conditions/changing loads, the 1K extra (for the air ride) is not necessary to get a really good shock and ride.

Progressives are very good shocks...but, if I was starting from scratch, for <$200 extra, the Bitubo is a better choice.  That's just my opinion and the choice I would make personally.

Like I said, it's a personal preference, I've never ridden a bike with the Bitubo upgrade, they look like quality stuff. I'll take that extra money and get a True Track, or a ride str-8 for the back end. Now as to the front end, I think the stock front end needs as much help as possible, and I consider that a big safety factor to me. I'm looking at upgrading my front end, but having just a RK custom, not a CVO, I don't have the cartridge in the front, so I am doing some research now. For now heaver fork oil!

I do like getting into the corners, just not as much as I did with my old bike. Floor boards drag before I get really cooking, that's why I sold the old bike and got the RK, slow'n it down!!!

I agree with the safety and comfort. Those are a given. But with that comes the confidence you get when everything is predictible! By having a responsive system, instead of one that just bounces over things, you can predict how the bike will respond in most situations. If you're not worried about wobbles, wheel skipping, drifting, etc., you can start having fun too! And when you push it harder, you become a much better rider. And that makes you more capable of dealing with situations. And that makes it safer. So you see, you make it handle like a Ducati, and try to push it to it's limits, and safety and comforet come along for the ride! And it's a whole lot more fun! ;) Hoist! 8)

For those of you that have not had the privlege to meet me yet, I'm 250#. Sassy on the other end is tiny. So I've got about 40-50 #'s for luggage to hit GVW & we all know how quick luggage can add up. Most of my riding is 2up. Chief & I will compare notes this weekend.

AJ...I think you would very definitely feel a huge improvement by going to the Bitubo shocks, and if you really want to improve things, do the Traxxion AK-20 cartridges as well.  Those of us who have had this done are not just blowing smoke here...it is one of those things you cannot believe until you've felt the difference.  I'll never own another bike without the Traxxion front end...IMO, it's an essential upgrade, and one I would do before I spent a dime on motor work.

Oh, forgot to mention that 400# does not include gas and oil. You can take off about 40# for a full tank and 1.5 gals of oil, giving us a whopping 360# for rider, passenger and luggage. So you and the missus are at capacity just pulling out of the driveway.

By the way, I weighed the leather tour pak the other day...44.5#, empty. I knew it was heavy, but didn't think it was that heavy.

Anyone hear anything about when these shocks will arrive? If BiTubo's closed in August, and they don't ship soon, we'll be waiting until the end of Sept! I hope they're shipping soon! :nixweiss: Hoist! 8)

Dude!, have you always been this forgetful, or is old age kicking in? :nixweiss: Please refer to post #106 in this thread. Estimate was one month as of 7/6. I'm guessing 8/6 +/- a week.  :2vrolijk_21:

Since I can't post in the vendor's section, I'l post here.

I just called Dan at Traxxion and asked for an ETA on your shocks.

The order was sent in last week. As of right now, Bitubo has not responded to him, so he doesn't know if they have all of the parts on the shelf or not. All of the shocks are built to order, so its not the same as just boxing up inventory. Dan's best guess is about one month to get them here.

If I hear something, I'll pass it along.

This post has no expected date, just an estimate of about a month! And if they're closed in August, why is this a silly question. By now, we should have some kind of commitment on them. And yeah, I want the new shocks. And I knew they'd be "about" a month. 2 weeks into the 4 week leadtime is enough time to at least ask if we've got a commitment date! And if it's not, it must be the Mad Cow Disease! ;D Hoist! 8)
