I took off the TourPack, and rode solo about 300 miles last weekend. It felt like my kidneys were about to rupture. The freeze bumps in southern Illinois were like hitting a curb every 400 feet. I called Chief yesterday and he walked me through the procedure for properly adjusting the pre-load etc. I checked it and as suspected found it too tight. I moved the spanner nuts .100" and it seemed to have the proper pre-load at that point. I started with the compression at 2, rode down some rough 2-lane roads, and found they bottomed. I set them to 7 and it rode like a dream but still seem to be driving the bumper/stop all the way up. I'm going to bump compression up to 8 or 9 and try once more.
I'm no suspension engineer, but I can tell if the pre-load is set up correctly you will have absolutely no adjustment with the compression settings. Just as well to have a rigid suspension.
I think these bitubos shocks are absolutely awesome, but I think a person has to go to the trouble of having 2, or maybe even 3 pre-load adjustments. Once you figure that out, it can be changed in a matter of minutes. If you're not going to be bothered adjusting pre-load--you better just keep the stock suspension. More air in equals a tighter suspension. Less air in equals a softer suspension. That's pretty simple.
