Headset and CB question
« on: June 03, 2007, 11:56:45 AM »

Just hooked up my setup to the bike and the headsets (J & M) in the Arai Classic helmet sound great.  After looking in the manual, it states that when the fairing speaker switch is in the middle position, you should hear the music in both the headsets and the speakers.  It only comes through the headset speakers in the forward position.  Am I missing something here?

On the CB, it turned on both the CB and the intermcom by pushing the soft key buttons.  Is there any additional set up to using the CB?  I tried a radio check on channel 19, but the bike was in the garage and we did just have a storm front move through.  I can hear static, but not much else.  I adjusted squelch both ways, but I think due to weather and the inside location, it probably was not the best place and time to check it out.  I am using the J & M shorty antennas.  Anything else I need to do to ensure this baby will work before I road test it?

Thanks.

I just went out to the garage to try and call you on channel 19 but I didn't hear you.

I think the gagrage got you with the broadcast attempt for sure.

Sounds like you have the headset setting correctly.

I personally run on the seadset most of the time without the speakers, no need to share with the motoring public I figure.  Let them try to figure out why I have the chitty grin while bee boppin' down the highway.

That's what I was thinking. No real need to do both unless the passenger wants to listen and they do not have a helmet equipped with a headset?

Two guys sittin' at a light on baggers yesterday in the inside left turn lane, I'm next to them in the cage and they are blastin' out some great tunes.  Cop sittin' next to me to go straight.

Light changes, bikes turn along with me in the outside lane and a few cars behind me, next thing (and I expected it) cop whips a left from the go straight lane and hauls up along side the bikes.  He must thave thought better of it, but I know the music is what got him all twisted up.  They saved themselves grabbing a right just as he got there, I doubt they ever realized what was up, but I'm sure he had at least a stop and chat in mind.  It just became too difficult to get to them without causing a traffic scene.

It was a local dickweed and we just got annexed to the city (6,000 population), they used to have about 3 cars and I can't tell you what the additiaonl revenue has gotten them, but now I see Expeditions, trucks and more cars.  So I pull out of my drive yesterday to get going and I see a bagger down the road with the guy ridin' in a white helmet, tell the wife, did those local pricks get bikes?

No chit, two blocks down he's backing off the road to set up.  (At least it's a Harley)  I no more than get by him and he raises his Liedar and whack, gets the guy right behind me.

We were 35mph before the annexation and now we are all 25mph roads.  I set my cruise on 25 when I pull out, these guys are on a mission.  Really pisses me off :soapbox:

Oh well, back to the headset settings, if I have the helmet with com on it I go private. :2vrolijk_21:

With the whip (Stock ) you can transmitt about 1 mile or two on a good day line of sight. Channel 19 at your house depends on how far you are form the super slab to get a response. Did you run any other channels? Best test iw with another bike (Parked) across the way to tell for sure for TX & RX on the cb For the cb just the squelch adj and volume if you don't have it turned up you won't hear anything :)

AS far as the middle position it will allow you to hear the cb in your ear and the music in you headset if you have them both enabled.

John,

You will probably only use it on group rides to hear the lead and sweep guy...
other than that...its a nuisance to have all that chatter interupt the music.

And mine doesn't pick up nothing in the garage either...on the road, it picks up
too much.

Breaker, Breaker,  we got a picture taker....

Thanks Barry.  I'll give it a test when I get back home.  I've got a buddy who has an ultra so I'll make him hook up his cb and give her a go.

If I recall, didn't we find out that some 06 bikes were wired different? It seems like some could play through headset and speakers at the same time and some couldn't.

On an Ultra, the forward position is for the headsets, the middle is for the front speakers and the all the way setting is for both the front and rear speakers.

The bikes must all be wired differently.  :nixweiss:  On mine, in the speakers off position, everything goes through the headsets; in the middle position, CB and Intercom go through the headset and radio/CD goes through the speakers (this is the position I use the most); in the speakers on position (light is on), everything, but the intercom, goes through the speakers, even the NAV voice.  The only way I can shut off the rear speakers is to put the fader in the front only mode.   I can't believe there's that much disparity in how the rocker switch operates...wow. :-\

As always the correct information can be found on Page 91 of your (06) Owners manual - The Rocker switch works the same way as Charlie has said.

Fade is controlled (Front to rear Speaker) is controlled by a setting in the radio NOT the rocker switch. Audio System can be hard to get a grip on as 80% of the folks have never had this as a option on a HD and the learning curve can be hard as it is more complex than your regular (AUTO RADIO).

IF you find your HK RADIO works Different on the Rocker switch than stated in your Owners manual -Then You need to get to your dealer as you have a RADIO Problem that should be covered on your warranty.

This is the way they are supposed to work, RD.

Everybody else, take a look at the owners manual, and I think you will find this to be true.
