Screaming Eagle Plug Wires
« on: June 06, 2007, 01:33:09 PM »

I don't understand it...

Why did H-D not put the Screamin' Eagle plug wires on the Screamin' Eagle CVO's?  Actually, for their top-end custom bike, I have discovered a lot of little attention to detail items that were forgotten...  In fact I came up with a 3-page parts list of things forgotten/missing from the bike which should have been there from the factory...

Wait... What am I thinking, this is only a $30K motorcycle...

Oh well, I wish to put the red wires on my Razor Red FLHRSE3, how do you think they would look compared to the

31939-99A
Fits '99-later Touring models.
Red
MSRP US $12.95

How hard is it to install them?  I noticed that the plug wires run from the coil pack at the front of the neck under the tank to each jug.  It looks like it going to be a blast.  I would like to do the upgrade without removing the fuel tank if possible.

Has anyone else done this mod yet on a 2007?

That's why they left a lot of the "little" stuff off to keep it at 30K if you wanted everything on it you wouldn't have wanted to buy it (COST TO MUCH) Now do you understand.

I have the orange S/E plug wires that I have yet to install. You can lift the tank up enough to get your hand under it to get to the coil, but I have large hands and was unable to get the wires unplugged and ran back thru the loops as the stock ones were. On mines I had to remove the console, loosen the front tank mount screws, take the fuel overflow hose loose, and there was an electrical connection that goes to the tank that I disconnected to get the tank up. I then stuck a piece of 2X4 under the tank to hold it up in my attempt to get my hand in there. I could see everything, but wasn't enough room for me to get my hand under there to get stuff off, and back on as I would have liked to. If you have small hands or a BSR that doesn't mind assisting you then you may be able to get it done at home.

I'll pick the new wires up on the way home and give it a shot.  Don't know if the dealer has the red ones in stock or not...

I was able to get the new wires on without disassembly so far, but has not been fun.  I bet I have 2-3 hours into it doing so.  I also cannot get the SE wires into the loop :(

Pull out a copy of the Screamin Eagle parts catalogue. You won't see either the wires or the coils recommended. Why? because when H-D built the twin-cam and made it single fire the coil and wires had to be upgraded to the point where they were essentially performance parts as compared to the Evo style. So you can spend your money on these things if you want, but you won't seem em recommended anywhere and IMHO they are a waste.

By the way, I'm of the same mind on roller rockers unless you're running .650 or more lift. The valve stems just do not move enough to merit them.
