The Chicago area has at least one good option for an engine builder.
I have waited to post untill I had some time for shakedown on my new 113. Also be aware that I am in no way other then customer, affiliated with the following engine builder.
Hemi-Design out of Cicero Ill.
I started my build on 07 road glide by contacting several engine builders inc. the more famous out of town ones. When I asked how long they warranty their work--reply was 90 days.(what a joke) I talked to Ron the boss from Hemi he said he was about 65 and would stand behind his work while he was still kicking.
They only build one way. If you are going with big power it is timkin, weld & balance crank gear drive cams with good bearings etc. The mechanic Bill is totally meticulous about his work.
Project started last fall and could have been done a little quicker but in fairness many parts for 07s were either unavalable or not developed yet.
When completed the bike ran like a raped ape . It did like all 110-113 run a bit hot and also pinged to much when hot. They checked , said no good tuned retuned replaced a bad daytona twintech tuned and retuned . Bike still gets warm but only pings if I really lug it.
No they don't walk on water but it was a better experience then most. ( I have had other engines built succesfully with other builders )
First real trip is next week - N Georgia, dragon ,Blue Ridge , smokies etc. Will post again after bigger milage.
Bottom line I once again learned a great deal on this project and I would highly recommend Hemi to anyone especially if they don't want to travel or ship to east or west coast.
