John,

Quick queston for you, is the pain feel as though it is in your hip or does it originate from your hip flexors? Reason I ask is, most "hip pain" complaints from riders is due to weak hip flexors. This pain becomes pronounced when the knees are drawn/bent toward the chest/upper body, with resistance applied. The resistance in this case, is either the wind against the chest and/or the G-force from the machine, usually the combination of both. Additionally, when your foot turns outward(external rotation) while the hip flexors are engaged, additional stress is being applied. If this description is painting a clear picture, you will also see that highway pegs can exacerbate/worsen the problem.
So what is the fix? In order to extend the legs, you obviously would need to either move your position in the saddle back and/or move controls forward. Highway pegs should allow the legs to extend out with a slight bend in the knees in order for the legs/hip flexors to relax. Lastly, strengthening of the hip flexors. This combo should allow for relaxed riding and mobility after getting off the scoot. I would suggest a strengthening exercise that isolates the hip flexors, while providing minimal or no stress to the lower back. IMO flutter kicks would be an example of a BAD, BAD exercise. I personally would prefer to do hanging leg raises, which do not involve the lower back.
Hope this helps, I tried to keep this in laymens terms, if any clarification is needed, give a shout.

Wow SOKOOLJ!

I bet your not on my HMO list or I could come to see you. I am applying for ILLEGAL ALIEN status and if approved, will get me a couple of those crome molly and nylon joints.  ;)

I miss the Corbin on my last ride also. I think the heated feature takes away from the comfort of the seat. The real problem is my 300 lb superstructure but, like you, I need to get the pressure off the hips. Is there a way to lower the floor pans?  :pepper:

I had trouble with my legs hurting after riding a few miles.  I had new road peg adjustable extensions installed ...and adjusted so that it raises my legs  with a slight bend at the knees.  It made a world of difference.  I haven't been on a long ride yet, but early indications are very positive.  With the new adjustable pegs....I slid my butt slightly forward and prop my feet on the pegs...bend in the knees...lean back on the seat back and away I go.......much better.  Total cost including adjusting to my liking.....$140.00

The pleasure of riding in comfort - Priceless!

I have very short legs. I can actually put my feet up on the lower fairing and ride like that.  That really puts a nice stretch on the hips.  I also got the Physical Therapist to show me some nice stretches that you can do at any gas station stop.  The easiest one is the calf stretch - just step up on any elevation - the gas pump usually is elevated, and standing on the balls of your feet, let your heels go as low as you can stand it.  Leg up on your seat, stretch the back of the legs.  Sit and cross your feet, then move your feet to the side, big stretch from your hips down the side of your lets.  These stretches make for a big comfort factor at the end of the day.

HOPE YOU HAVE BETTER LUCK....GETTING OLD AIN'T LOTS OF FUN.....BUT THE BIKE HELPS IF I DON'T GO TOO FAR...PLUS..I AM AFRAID TO GET TOO FAR FROM HOME...IT MIGHT BREAK DOWN.

I think the seat has some to do with you pain but I would take a serious look at your floor boards and highway pegs. You can probably releave your pain by repositioning your feet and legs. At the same time try changing the position of your bars . That will change your back angle which could be putting pressure on your hip also. :2vrolijk_21:

I think SOKOOLJ hit it dead-on.  I don't have any joint problem, and have always had strong legs, but on my SERK I get pain when I am standing astride it and when using the wide highway pegs.  I also have problems if I try to use one of those hip abductor machines.  It may have something to do with the width of the seat/frame splaying the legs outward.  Hanging leg lifts will probably help.  Exercise to ride?  Old age is hell - and I'm 46. :o

Not complaining.  But like the man says, "I'm much too young to feel this damn old".  Actually my only real concern is if I'd been riding with legs splayed for a while and have to catch the thing from going over when I stopped.

Just a question:  do you ride with a billfold in your hip pocket on the side that hurts?  Once I figured out  where the pressure point was coming from, I took the billfold out and it really helps. I'm top heavy with a little ass, so my butt bones get a lot of pressure. The Airhawk cushion really helps on long rides to even out the pressure.

Harley had helped me in this area.....keeping the bike running keep that billfold from getting too fat.

I HAD SOME WHAT OF THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER RIDEING A SOFTAIL AND THEN GOING TO A TOURING MODEL. I WAS SURE IT WAS THE SEAT. NOT SO. I HAD TO HAVE A HIP REPLACEMENT. THE PROBLEM WAS THERE ALL ALONG .THE ANGLE OF THE SEAT IS WHAT STARTED ME PUTTING ADDITIONAL PRESSURE ON A NEW PART OF THE JOINT. HAD IT DONE LAST YEARAND JUST RODE 5500 MILES LAST MONTH ON THE SAME SEAT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.MIGHT WANT TO CHECK IT OUT...
