I am going to buy an o8 only if the tourback can be made removable.  I was told that the amplifier under the pack can present problems.  Connector plugs tend to fail in rain (or so I've heard). Is there a good option for this issue?

I removed my tour pak on my 07 and discarded the amp. If you still want an amp, you can get the Hawg-wired system which all fits in the fairing.

Nice job!!!  However, I'm not overly interested in changing the performance of the system.  I was thinking of some time of relocation.  I'm willing to loose some of my saddlebag if necessary.

I don't think the saddlebag is a good location. First you'd need to really F it up to get the big unbilical in there, and second, the amp gets hot if it isn't in the wind. I removed mine totally, and can live with the reduction in volume. The benefits of not having the TP on the bike far outweighs the lack of amp'd stereo.

Can the stock amp be relocated to the fairing like the hawg amps? What kind of bracket is needed to mount in the fairing?

I don't think you could fit it there. It's rather bulky, plus there isn't enough airflow there to cool it down. The Hawg Wired amps are digital and produce much less heat than the HD analog amp. Then there's the rewiring too. It's a pretty big bundle of wires connected to the amp.

Simplest solution is to ditch it when you remove the TP. The harness comes off real easily. Mine is headed to Ebay. I never turned it on before I removed it, so I don't miss it, and I'm only running two front speakers, which were upgraded to Hog Tunes which helped.

relocate the amp between the left rear saddlebag and rear fender.   :2vrolijk_21:

That way you keep the amp that came with the bike and when you DO put the tour pak on...you have use for the bumps containing speakers by a simple plug in.

Great idea. I read somewhere here last week about someone mounting air compressor there also. Sounds like 08 will not be so easy to take-tour pack off with abs mounted below tour-pack :'(

For '08, the ABS pump is mounted under the right side cover, not the Tour-Pak.  The amplifier is still mounted under the T-P.

With the Drive-By-Wire throttle system, they no longer need a separate cruise control module.  Therefore they could move the fuse boxes and data connector from the right side panel over to the left side.  Then they moved the ECM up top, over the battery.  The result of all these moves is enough room under the right side cover for the ABS system.

I still like to use the CB when several of us are riding together.  Were you able to save the CB?

I guess you could change the antenna mount to the rear??
