Headed to the Dealer...HEAD GASKET, go figure! UPDATE
« on: June 23, 2007, 10:17:25 PM »

Just dropped the 07 SE Ultra off at the dealer.
Work should begin on Tues and they won't do the front because
it isn't leaking.  I wasn't happy to hear that and let them know it.
Sure don't want to be on a trip and have the front one Poop the bed, but I guess
that is what weget from buying the 1st year model engine like this!
I will keep Yous posted on how the rest of the dealer experience goes
and when I get it back!

There is a new 07A part number. They need to do both Gaskets. Wife's bike goes in Monday and they are doing both gaskets.

I hear ya Brad, I wasn't pleased that they weren't going to do the Front.
I told them about the new part number too.  This Dealer has the most experienced
Engine guys in my area and that is about the only saving grace for me now with this bike.
Not sure if I will hold on to it after getting the gasket fixed.
Wish I would have just kept my 04 Road King Classic, Not a single problem in 17K miles
with that bike.

It all depends on your local service department. My SM would only do the rear because that is the only one that was leaking. I guess if I wanted to flip out and throw a tantrum I could have made a scene and beat on them until they did both, but I decided to save that for a time more fitting to a tantrum. I've almost got 2,000 on the new rear gasket and the front one still hasn't shown any evidence of leaking.

It's just not that big of an issue to chance blowing an otherwise good relationship with the service dept.

My SEUC2 is in the shop now (10k mi).  Rings+ in both cylinders.  Seems like the rear intake valve seal seized and allowed 6 qts to pump through in 1100 miles

I'm going to V&H true duals, big air and SE R/T.  From what I've read here that should reduce the heat and increase performance.

RetiredOF,

I didnt have an issue with both cylinders, only the rear when they replaced the rings, but I paid the difference to have them put in new rings in the front cylinder as well and also ball hone the cylinders as the rings caused some surface scratching and I wanted a nice clean cross hatch to work with.   If your dealer is not already doing this I would highly suggest questioning them on this.

The combo your looking at should help you reduce the heat provided you get a decent tune from the tuner.  Just don't use the harley air cleaner.   You will want to look at the K&N, Ness, Zippers the harley ones fall apart to easily whether they are the blue or the black ones.

Let us know how you make out with it.

Chief,
I think you hit the nail on the head, I didn't want to get to crazy about
demanding the front one be done since I am new in NC and especially
new with this dealer and hope to build a good relationship with them.

Work starts Tues AM on it, so hopefully in a couple days I will be back
on the saddle and running through the gears!
This dealer had an 07 SE Road King and Dyna on the floor(both Red and MSRP)

This is so ass-backwards.  It should be the dealer's responsibility and desire to earn our business and build a relationship with us.  Not our responsibility to treat them sweetly in hopes they actually perform adequately.

Don

I agree completely.
So I guess the next thing is "I will sell you a bike but you have to promise to like the price. And don't even mention the fact that it's 4K above MSRP, or we will sell it to someone else"

And eventually it gets to that what extreme?  Something where that sentence ends with:

..... and I hope you like what color we picked for you.

Unbalanced,

I only had a problem with the rear cylinder, but the local dealer is going to do both anyway.  Fortunately, my dealership is really into customer satisfaction!  BTW, they are checking rocker box clearances and relieving them if there is any doubt.

I am purchasing the K&N filter and will only keep the blue junk as something to use if I need to ride during a filter clean & oil.

Should get the scoot back today or tomorrow, if the tranny noise checks out.  I will let you know the results

I think being here in a HUGE military town(60K of us Devil Dogs and Sailors) these dealers know they will always
have us folks rotating in and out and new customers that will come in and say I want the bike NOW! And hopefully
be transfered before any problems creep up so they don't have to deal with them.

And "I really like the color you set aside and picked out for me!"  HaHaHa.

Man, I wish I could wrench on this damn engine, and if that was the case, it would
never see the dealer!!!  Maybe get out of the Maines and go to MMI...LOL Maybe during retirement!

Well, the Dealer took pictures of the rear head gasket leak and said they had to send
them to the HD Warranty Rep for approval as warranty work.  Did any one else's Dealer do this?
Kinda seems like a No Brainer to me with this leak and all, but I am just a customer, I guess?!
So, now he said it could take 48 hours for a response and Now I am quite sure I won't have the bike
back by the 4th of July Holiday!!
Anyone wanna buy a 2007 SE Ultra with only 5200 miles?! LOL

Sounds strange to me.  Heard of dealers calling moco with problem for approval but sending photo for them to review prior to repair is something I've not heard of.  Maybe your dealer has never encountered this before and is just doing a cya to be sure the moco will approve.  Or maybe the dealer is on double secret probation from the moco.
