What's that Thingy?
« on: June 28, 2007, 12:07:50 AM »

Went to put on the PC111 today but found that a plug with a rubber cap on it siting on a bracket on top of the elay box.wondering what this is for, looks somewhat like a USB jack. Anyway the dammn thing is in the way to tie up the two mated connectors upon PCIII being plugged in, without sitting out too far. A bunch of you must have done this already and maybe can let me know how you resolved this. Hate to bend and sqeeze the original wire harness and its connector to get it to mate for fear of damaging it. Why can't Dynojet make cables of the exact length needed for a great fit.

If it's the connector I assume you're talking about it's the bike's data port.  Where diagnostic or other equipment would connect to the bike.

Where are you trying to mount the Power Commander?  On top of the ECM?

The directions I've seen for any current model touring platform mount the Power Commander under the battery tray.  Stuck on down there.  It's out of the way of everything you're describing and the harness length is fine.

Mine is velcroed to the on top of the ECM, then wire tied.  The plugs are on the right side of the ECM, also wire tied to the plastic tray bolted to the frame that holds it all on the bike.  It's tight, but no harm will come from moving things around a bit.  Under the battery tray will work as well, but that space is used on my bike by a compressor for the shocks.

No problem mounting the unit, it's the two cables connectors that get in the way. Actually its the main harness to the original connector to the ECM that's now attached to the mating plug to the PC unit. Pictorial directions followed exactly, but they seem to have stuffed some extra crap in mine that gets in the way . For example, the clips that the data port thingy sits in sticks out an inch on the front of the relay box and to lay the connectors over top even with the data port moved  then the original main cable stays too far out to enable the side cover to be reinstalled. Ripped the POS PCIII  :confused5:out untill  I come up with a better way. :nixweiss: Anyone got a pic of how you put it on the 07 Serk?
