Hoist.....

This saga started May 20th, 2007 and here we are on the 21sth of July, 8 weeks and counting.  That's a lot of energy focused on keeping those around you focused on your needs.  It just goes to show you, one can't have ADD and keep their bike on the road.  I hope by the 28th or 29th of July your bike is perfectly tuned and the wind is in your face at the speed you wish to go....

I hope in a few days after you have had time to decompress from all of this...that you will do a summary page of what happened to the bike and what you specifically have on the bike mechanically now that you are running.  It would also be interesting to know how many dollars were spent....even though I am assuming most of it was "warranty dollars".....  Makes you wonder what all the other 2007 serk owners have to look forward to if they aren't putting the miles you have already on their bikes....

Donny Walsh in American Iron for the month of Sept is comparing the 96 twin cam compared to the 88 twin cam in an article and I believe referred back to the 110 serk engine as well...talking about some of the things on what harley has done...I am sure most of you guys are way ahead of what he is talking about but I found the article interesting....

(Not to change the subject but I read that you are also now changing your handle bars to 12.5" chubby apes from the 10" chubby apes?????  I for one can not wait for you to report on this seperately and hopefully you will....after you get another 2,000 miles or so......)

I really appreciate all of your input to this site Hoist.....your entertaining and informative....and everyone that posts here with you is great too....

Regards,

Thanks man! But things are never as easy as they seem. First the bars. I sat on an RK in the showroom w/12.5" W1 Chubbys, and they seemed even more natural for me than the 10's. I should've tried to compare both, but ordered the 10's without ever trying the 12.5's! Dumb mistake! The 12.5's are better for me. I guess I'll find out on the road!

Today's update:

Not all days are good days! We buttoned up the rest of the bike today. Gas tank, lines, etc., put on the new speedo, new fluids, plugs, fuel. Ready to fire up by 1PM. Can't get it to start. Start checking everything. Good. Fuel pump turning on, fuel pressure, spark. Nothing! Just cranks and backfires trying to start. Connected directly to the stock ECM. Nothing. Hooked up DT. No codes. Nothing! :nixweiss: I'm getting a van in the AM and trucking it up to Joes. He'll go thru it now that the engine's built. Can only think of the new TB, or another fuel issue. 3 Techs going over it and we're all left scratching our heads! :confused5: But the new speedo's cool! ::)

Howie,

Where you able to test the stock throttlebody on the bike or did you run out of time?

No Harry, not enough time. They were closing too soon, and I didn't want to get into it there at that point. Plus, using my parts, I'd have to pay for the swap if the bike ran. Let Joe go thru the whole FI and Electronics systems first. I'll bring my TB with me and he has a 54mm S&S to try also. Joe will get it going! I'll let ya'll know what it turned out to be. Any other ideas? Thanks man!

Well I got the friggin' trailer. C'mon, lemme have it! :D I'm picking the bike up at noon to bring to Joe's. Maybe Joe can take Hoist's abuse! ;D They couldn't get it running, but they want to clean it completely anyway. It's not gonna be easy for me to take, putting my bike on that thing! :nixweiss: Especially when it's "1 of the 10 Best Days of the Year", weather wise! I'm hoping Joe will get it running before I drive home. I'll feel so much better. But it will be left in his capable hands. Hopefully, I'll be up there next weekend breaking it in. It's wonderful not being able to make any plans, and spending my entire summer fixing HD's mess! ::) It's like grc's signature. "H-D and me  -  a classic love / hate relationship.  Current score:  love 45, hate 45, bewildered 10." But I still love it, even though I hate it! ;)
We'll get it straightened out, and I'll be tearing up the roads in no time!

You just know one shop is going to love picking up where another left off and couldn't make it go.  Oy vey.  What a pain in the ass.

Howie, that you maintain good spirit at this point is better than I would do.  I actually rode mine a bit yesterday evening for the first time in awhile.  In fact it runs pretty decent for a stock 103 with a slightly rough idle.  But at least the red bitch runs.

Good luck buddy.  This has gotta be driving you nuts.  Hope it all works very soon and very easy  :2vrolijk_21: .

Thanks Guys! I just got back from dropping it off at Joe's. He thinks it's something stupid and said he should have it running tomorrow. He loved the bike. He also is really into his work! This guy lives and breathes tuning! Binx and I took him out to dinner and all we talked about was HP and TQ! I had so much fun talking to him and learn more and more, each time I talk to him! He came from a party to meet me and then spent another hour with me at the restaurant. Poor Binx! Not much for her to talk about with Joe. ::) He's got Dyno charts coming out of his ass! That man gets the best numbers I've ever seen out of engines. 88, 95, 96, 103, 110, 113, 116, 117, 120, 124, 131! You get the Idea. He basically does nothing but tune. And the man's a sweetheart. He can't wait to rip into my build. He agrees that this motor might tune great with the large TB. If not, he's gonna customize a 54 mm S&S TB for me to try. We're actually gonna compare both the S&S and the HPI. We're also gonna dyno the bike with the S&S mufflers the week after next. I'm going up next weekend to put some miles on it and leave it there again. That will be tuning week. S&S mufflers w/DPP, Performance Fatcats w/ DPP. We'll also compare TB's. We're also comparing the DPP w/the S&S Single Bore Tuned Induction Intake. The best combination of components both performance wise, and rideability wise, is what's gonna wind up staying on my bike. Two more weeks, and two more trips to Albany and I should be done! Hopefully the 12.5" W1 Chubbys, the PM Calipers, BiTubos, and the Painted Hardbags will be done by then too! After all this chit, I freakin' deserve to be able to ride my bike, without anymore BS problems due to MoCo's inferior design!!!
