Harry , how does the 595 cam's you chose compare to the SE 258 that I have in mine? Also I am running 10.25 compression pistons with .030 ceramic head gaskits which should give me around 10.5 compression. Heads were ported to within 1/8 of the size of the valve for that port. Stock TB. D&D Fatcat 2 into 1's , SERT and k &n filter. Seems to be a good setup but not producing much torque ( @ 100.6 ). I guess it could be the TB? Or maybe that choice in cam's not able to produce much torque. See anything wrong with this setup....Throtle Body maybe? I was told by the service manager the larger TB would lower performance in the lower RPM range, I guess by changing the torque curve? I understand now I should have went with the SE 50mm TB then. But reading all of Hoist's research I think I should go with the 58mm by Hosrepower Inc. What do you think now that you have more info?

Kingdog
Well the 258 is known for pulling well down low especially in a 103 and if adding more air will kill the torque seems to suggest that the heads are probably not setup for velocity.   When the head can't take the air and turn it into torque and will actually kill it you need to relook at the heads / air flow / velocity.   My guess would be that if you took a smaller throttlebody and put it on the 110 and the torque picked up that you have a head / airflow problem.   The 258 should pull well, but it is an unknown in the 110 engine.  I had more torque than you have with a stock engine and rineharts and stock throttlebody.

The 595 pulls ok down low as you can see from Hoists dyno sheet very little variation in Torque its almost as good as it gets at a flat torque line.  The 595 shines though and you can feel it when you hit about 2600 to 5000.   I would tell you yes these heads like more air when setup correctly and the bike will produce more than 100 torque.   With the 595 and 10.25 harley pistons and 50mm I believe the bike will put out 117 torque and 103 horsepower.  I might be off 1 or 2, but these were pulls done on Cycle-Rama's dyno about 2 weeks ago.   Did they change the springs in your heads when they played with them?   You would need to do this if you looked at the 595 cam.

If your looking at doing this again I would suggest going back to flat tops, the 595 and 58 mm throttle body and having the heads looked at for velocity and springs.

This thread's just about done! ;D

TODAY'S UPDATE:

HeeHeeHee! ;D ;D ;D The bikes a friggin' animal! It's so fast it can overpower the chassis! I had to relearn to ride it as you can not just go WFO anytime at all like most other HD's! You have to do everything deliberately! Precalculated throttle position. It is very easy to get yourself into trouble on this bike now. I will not let just anyone ride it anymore. If you don't have your chit together, this thing can and will bite! I had so much fun riding it home. You talk all the numbers you want! They don't mean crap! That's what's on your shorts after riding this thing now! Crap!!! Unreal!!! This is exactly what I set out to do. It made the numbers we expected. But more importantly, it gets there in no time! But is extremely rideable! This thing is WICKED and a little OBNOXIOUS! Just like me!!! ;D

All I can say is..... Bring it on Ron!!! ;D ;D ;D I do have a concern now about using the 30 tooth engine sprocket. It's wicked fast now. The D&D Fatcat Performance Muffler is pretty loud when you open it up. I'm doing 85 at 3k RPM in 6th now. Don't think I wanna raise that by 500 RPM. The bike's plenty fast right now. I think I'll keep that gear and use it for Track Days! ::) But for the road, it's not necessary now! Did I mention that this thing is friggin' fast! ;D

Temp never got above 245 degF. That was going over 120 and regular speed, then some traffic, and splitting lanes. That was for over and hour and for 120 miles! In traffic, you do feel a little heat off the 2:1 headpipes, but not enough to bother you. Oil never above 245. The bike does not ping at all ans spins straight up to red line!!! And above 3500, look out! That's where the cam kicks in. If you really wanna fly, ride the bike no less than 3600 RPM and shift up and down from there! You'll be short-shifting so quickly, you'll wish you had an electric shifter!!! :o

All in all, I gotta tell ya, I couldn't be happier with the way the bike runs right now. It's really very rideable, a little loud but running like this, who the F cares! ;D I can ride it at 2 grand and roll on, or kick it down and look out! Wes designed an awesome 110 package. Alex at New Roc HD did a great job assembling it. And most important, Joe Bramski of Joe's cycle Repair, tuned it! That's the key. It will go back one more time after Q's BBQ and before HS. It's getting a little decel popping in 5th at around 3 grand, when you back off fully under load. A little annoying, but not causing any running issues. I can take it easy and keep it quiet. Or I can set off every car alarm in the neighborhood and freak people out if I downshift and whack it!

This engine is so good now, I hope it holds up like this for quite some time!!! I gotta believe, and I'd try it, that this is the fastest 110", stock bottom end, less than 10:1 CR, in the country right now!!! And I'm fine with that! Here Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie! Get your ass in gear and put some OT in on the TMAT. Bill Gates can program it for you! It ain't gonna freakin' help!!! ;D ;D ;D

Hoist, would you be just a little more plain about your feelings? Do you like the build or not?

Hey Ken, I was a little unsure if it was doing everything he expected.  The boy did seem a bit reserved there in a couple places.  Sure hope he's not disappointed in that little motor now that it's all done.

Harry, sounds like you may think it could be the cam's or the air flow in the ported heads. I'm getting 109 HP right now with this cam and that's ok with me. Wanted to stay with HD cam's, but didn's want to go as big as the SE260's. Just want to improve the torque more. This setup improved the HP #'s by @ 20 HP. And that's what I expected with the headwork, but was hopeing for more torque increase. Only increased from stock tq @ what 96, 4 lbs. from stock. Not what I was looking for. SO I will look at doing the TB and if that don't do the trick, at least I will already have all the parts in place and will have T-MAN in W/Salem redo the heads. I know Chip will be proud! Why would you go back to the flattop pistons?

KingDog

There are many people out there that offer pieces and parts to make the V twin go fast.
In this area Tman is one of the best.
Go to Tmans shop. I have been in hospitals that were dirtier.
I have never heard anyone say anything bad about his products.
What Tman offers is a combination that's proven.
If you have talked with him you already know!

www.tmanperformance.com

I put about 150 miles on the Frontier today.
A little over 5500 miles on the motor so far and it's still honking loud.
Getting 38 to 39 miles to the gallon.
The 120 had the stock 88" starter on it, that didn't last. Thunder Mountain changed it to the 1.4KW.
That didn't last. They then put the 1.8KW on it and no more troubles.
All covered under warranty. dOOd would be proud, I paid the extra 40 bucks to get the chrome one!

Thanks gang! I can't believe I had to relearn how to ride it. Dumping the clutch and whacking the throttle wide open will definitely land you in a heap of trouble on this bike. And I gotta get them PM's on, cause  everything happens so quickly now. You need good ass brakes with this beast! Them dual DB PM 6-piston fronts and 4-piston rears go on this week. ;)

Another issue! E3 Radials! Great in the rain! Handle fantastic! Wear like CHIT!!! Just about 6500 miles, gone!!! Hard fast riding, mostly 2-up loaded. But still, 6500!!! And I mean gone too! Gotta get a tire this week before Q's BBQ! I'll never make it like this! :o

Yes Hoist the E3 Radial is junk! Wifes has 9800 miles really dished out on each side. Harley changed the replacement to D407. It is stock on the 08 RK and Springer but back ordered till Aug 20th. Had to put another E3 to get going on our trip. Trying to get warranty on the tire. I had to have tire shipped from another dealer.

You didn't go from a 50cc scooter to a Hayabusa.
Geeez, you picked up 20 to 25 ponies.

Chip, Chip, Chip! It's 30 ponies but that has nothing to do with it. It's how quick the power comes on now. Don't be coy my friend. You know how much your 120 overpowers that Softail Frame. Geez, you can't even ride the bike at speed. You gotta keep the small engine sprocket in there so it don't go too fast for the frame. But now you can't take it on trips (except on a trailer). At least that's what Hubbard says about it! ::) And don't worry about me. I'm twisting it wide open anyway, and have a permanent SEG on my face now! Now see if you can manage to get that thing to HS. Since you'll have a trailer, bring your electric impact wrench. I'll need to do a gear change in the pits before going against that Frontier! ;)
