resetting the alarm code--disarm without remote
« on: July 06, 2007, 11:09:45 PM »

Hey gang I just was having a flashback to MV and Otis trying to disarm his alarm.  I dug out the instruction to disarm mine just in case.

EXCEPT one small problem

I havent got a freakin clue what the code is...  wa set by the previous owner i guess.

Any of the gurus on site now how to reset it without knowing it?

TIA

I believe you'll have to take it to a dealer to hook uo their diag computer, remove the keyfobs from the program and then re-install them.

If there's a default code, did you try it? Just a thought.

Only way to reset the PIN is with a DIS-armed system using dealer-only Diagnostic Tool.

Look in your owners Manual - It tells you how to display your code - look under change

That may be true with the new "no button" key fob system, but with the older system Scott has on his SEEG it is possible to easily reset the code as long as you have one of the key fobs and the ignition is unlocked.

Scott - the process is spelled out in the owner's manual and the electrical diagnosis manual.  If you can't find it, let me know and I'll post the instructions.

A question for that brain cell...How to ARM without the remote? :nervous:

Why- For 2006 and before if you go riding and forget your key- when you go into the bar there is NO way to lock the bike (so I sat by the window).   :drink: Nothing in the manual about how to ARM w.o. the remote.

Inquiring (forgetful) minds need to know....

There will be a code in the owners manual they are all set the same from the factory.  Has to do with left and right turn signals.

Big Al,

You're correct, there is no way to arm the old system on a one time basis without the fob.  The personal code entered with the turn signal switches is for disarming only.  However, there is a workaround if you want to experience some of the fun the folks with the '07's have: you can enable the auto-arming feature.  That way, 30 seconds after you shut the ignition off the alarm will set automatically.  Then if you don't have a fob with you, you will need to disarm with the personal code.

I'm still waiting for someone with an '07 to have one of their fob transmitters surgically implanted, so forgetting the key fob won't matter.  Maybe if they miniaturize them a little more?   ::)

Actually, I think I am going to set the auto-arm and try for a while...I do remember how to disarm with the turn signals...

There will be a code in the owners manual they are all set the same from the factory.  Has to do with left and right turn signals.

magoo - not quite true... from the factory all the PIN codes are set to Zeros: 00000

On '06 and earlier, you could assign (push-button) fobs without changing the PIN from 00000, Problem with that is, there are no Zeros available by (left = #, right = ENTER) pushing the turn signal buttons, only 1 through 9, so if the dealer didn't put SOMETHING in, and your bike was armed and you didnt have your fob (or it quit working) you were kinda  :'( screwed. Some dealers put a default number in, some ask you for a number before or during delivery of your bike.

It is common to put the code in the owner's manual. If it's not there, and you don't know (or don't remember ) it, call your dealer. Maybe it's set to his default or recorded the code in your paperwork. In any event, if yours is set to the dealers default, you should change it for obvious reasons.  :nixweiss:

On '07-later, when you program the (button-less) FOBs, you HAVE to enter SOMETHING for a PIN. The system will not let you leave them ZEROs. So if your 'Hands-Free' FOBs work, there IS a PIN stored. Again, if yours is set to the dealers default, you should change it.

grc - I should have said: The EASIEST way to reset the PIN is with a DIS-armed system, etc...  8)
