That piece is longer than the black rubber because it combines the width of the heel shifter and the rubber spacer in one.

The rubber is beneficial to have there because it keeps the shifter snugged up against the primary which keeps it from vibrating. Is there anything in this piece to keep the pieces under some load? I would be afraid of vibration in the shaft wearing away the aluminum in the shifter hole of the primary.

Chief, are you sure that's rubber? It looked like a wrinkle black finished, metal spacer, last I checked. I don't have my bike to check it again now. But if the Kury piece is one piece, and replaces the rear shifter arm and the spacer, that would work. But is there just a crome replacement for the spacer alone? I'm not sure if I'm removing the rear shifter arm yet. Hoist! 8)

Mine is rubber. My '99 was originally metal and that damn thing rattled like crazy. I got the rubber piece that they started to use on 00, or 01 and that killed the vibration. I'd be hesitant to go with a non-resilient piece. Maybe someone makes a piece with a spring in it, or other means of keeping some tension on the shaft.

Thanks for those links Bagger. But I'm still just trying to find a replacement for just the stock black bushing between the inner primary and shifter arm, not eliminate the rear shifter arm. I guess this is not such an easy one after all! I'm surprised at all you OCD maniacs! :o Hoist! 8)

What about the ole days of fabricating what you want?? I wouldn't think it would be that hard to make a copy of the plastic part in metal and have it polished or chromed. :nixweiss: How bad do you want it? ;D

Shoot me an inside dimension, outside dimension and an overall length and what you want it made of. Splined inside? Pass through?

My bike's at the shop right now, but you should have the same spacer on your RG. Look between the inner primary and the F. shifter arm. You'll see a black spacer. It's HD P/N 5817. They should be the same on all FL's. Hoist! 8)
