just ordered new SE Ultra and have a few questions
« on: July 20, 2007, 12:34:41 PM »

First is from reading some of the material on one. Does it come with a Stage One already installed or is that something extra? The reason I ask is that here in the Denver area a Stage One brings the engine back to semi normal performance. Second is: Is it a good idea to put Reinhart True Duals on the bike from the getgo? Is it better to have the SERT or PCIII? and Lastly: Can you put a quick disonnect on the touring pack so you can take it off when not needed? just some of my concerns going forward while I wait for my new 08 SE Ultra in Anniversary colors.

DJ, congrats on the new bike.

Your best bet is to put on a free breathing air cleaner assembly. The Ultra has the stock "D" filter in a box with some extra holes in it, therefore freer breathing. It is NOT the SE A/C.

I would do all three, pipes, tuner and a/c at the same time. SERT or PC depends on who will tune it. Pick what they want you to pick. Both work well.

The TP can be made detachable. Easiest way is to remove the amp. There are some other things you can do with the amp if you really must have it, but removing it altogether is the easiest.

Welcome to the site. There are many threads discussing all of your questions. Roll Your Own A/C will give you part numbers to build your own SE AC with the better K&N instead of the HD unit.

Good luck.

Everything Chief said...

Welcome to the site...when you feel ready, go to the New Member thread and introduce yourself.

If it were me, I would not drive it off the dealer's lot without putting the air cleaner, pipes of your choice (my personal preference is Rinehart TD's), and the PCIIIUSB or the SERT with a MAP that is close enough for break-in purposes (a little on the rich side).

Detaching the TP...a lot have done that.  It requires removing the AMP under the TP, and the wiring harness overlay for it.  There are excellent alternatives for amplifying the sound by placing digital amps inside the fairing...actually superior sound quality, from member's reports.

Get ready to open your wallet and get out the credit cards...we're always here to help spend other people's money after we've already spent all of our own.  The CVO model is a great starting point for making modifications... :2vrolijk_21: ;)

You have discovered the best HD website on the 'net, as you will soon discover.  Great bunch of people here, and the information is priceless.

DJ,
First off, welcome to the site and congrats on ordering a new SEUC3.  I went with the Vance and Hines duals, slipon ovals, SE A/C, and SERT right out of the dealership...then had it dyno'd at the 1K service.  I never had the heat issues that others had I think because of that move.  I would recommend having the dealer install all of that before you pick it up.  Once again, go with whichever ECM mod (SERT or PCIII) that your dealer feels the most comfortable with in adjusting.  You'll end up with a better tune and they both work very well.

Cheers :2vrolijk_21:,

First thing first, are either the SERT or the PC available for an 08? Now if they are i agree that i would have all this done before it leaves the dealers lot.

First things first welcome to the site from England, go to the home page and introduce yourself.

Secondly, congrats on the new bike, I'm sure that by the time this post hits the board you will have had questions answered, at the end of the day, either configuration will work but get your stuff put on ready for collection and enjoy it all the way... and ride safe.

I suggest You Ask These questions to your selling dealer you have ordered this from. If your dealer is willing to do this to an 08 then He will more than likley stand behind you and your NEW Warranty. I'm sure you can talk with your salesman and service manger and they will advise you while you may still have time to cancel the deal and find a dealer you can work with.

This is the only product I know of that you buy it and Take all the stuff off of it and stick aftermarket stuff on it and then whine to the dealer or board that HD will not make it right.

That's a great suggestion...if the rumors are true that the MoCo had to make the ECM tamper-proof, the SERT will not work...the PCIII should as it piggy-backs and by-passes the ECM...the other alternative is to replace the ECM with the ThunderMaxx Auto Tune.  (If that is compatible with the 08s, which it might not be if the '08 ECM controls the cruise control now.)  Best ask your dealer first...

Thanks for the input. I am going to have the dealer install everything, which they will do, so if there are any warranty issues they can be addressed, at least, by the dealer I purchased the bike from. And probably a better chance of warranty work being done by another dealer if I am on the road in need of repair. If you have done this and been to a dealer outside of your home dealer, what has been your experience? Do they stand behind other dealers work? With the Fat Boy they seem to be pretty good about it although I have been out of warranty on that bike for several years. But anything that I have added and that was still under a warranty they have honored at other dealers. I am interested in any replies and precautions I might want to take. Such as...and extended warranty on this bike. Any ideas?

As long as it is installed by a HD DEALER you will not have a problem with any other HD Dealer for warranty work. The only thing in question would be your being asked for proof which you could produce reciepits.

My dealer told me today that the SERT is not currently available for the '08 bikes.  He said that it will be a new SERT and I think he said that it would not be available for a couple of months (may have said November).

Zippers will have to come out with a brand new version of the Thundermaxx for the '08 cuz it will have to not only control the electronic throttle, but also the cruise control.  Bet that bumps the price of the TM/AT to over 1K for the unit.

The SERT and PC are not yet available.  I was told the SERT should be out late September and the PC near the end of the year.

Runs damn hot, but the cooler weather is on the way.
