Take a long slow ride down your favorite road and think about. You will make the right decision, for you and your family.

Hoist, Sorry to hear about what you and Binx are facing. I know you, and you'll make an  informed decision. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. It sorta sucks to get old and realize we're not invincible eh?

I too have been given some warning regarding my lifestyle.  The secret is make the best use of your life now as you say you can walk into a bus tomorrow, but making best use of your life also means looking after yourself for tomorrow.  If you need to cut down on stuff then do so, the booze and the late nights probably arn't a problem for you because you can still do the odd stuff and did you ever fancy chopping your bike into a SE trike, you can still feel the wind in your face and enjoy yourself even if it is at a slower pace.  Youv'e got a gorgeous wife she has got to figure in your plans.  She's not gonna wanna lose you and NEITHER DO WE, you give us plenty of amusement and sound advice on this board and long may it continue.

Howie,
Just read the first post in thread, and didn't read all the rest so some of what I'm about to offer may be redundant.

When I was first told about my hip condition I got on the internet and started researching all I could find about my condition, treatment, and medication. I also spoke w/people that had their hips replaced. I would suggest doing that in your case also. If there are things that can be done in your lifestyle (other then quit riding scooters) be open to trying them. For me it was to loose weight (I lost about 40lbs) as it would reduce the pressure/stress on the hip joint. I tried the cortisone injections directly in the joint which helped some but didn't last as long as I wanted. I eventually ended up having the hip replaced. I wasn't told by my surgeon not to ride scooters anymore, but I do know that because of what was done to get the new joint in if I were to receive some trauma in that area that it would be difficult to repair it. However I have decided to keep on riding because I enjoy doing it to much.

Good luck in whatever you decide. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks everyone for all your replies a kind words. I met with the cardiologist this week. Basically, I'm told there's no surgery option for this. And no surgeon in the country would perform open-heart surgery for such a small black spot if there were. The coumadin is the normal treatment. But they're baffled why I'm taking the highest dose in their office (12.5 mg/day), but it doesn't break things up like they'd well as they'd like to see. More tests in Oct. Man, I must have some thick ass blood! No wonder I never used to get cold in the winter! I'll just deal w/this coumadin crap, as stopping it isn't an option. Thanks again gang! ;)

Coumadin is a blood thinner which could cause more localized bruising which might cause more localized pain, but....

you are getting older too. ;) :D ;D :D ;D

Just remember that there is only one alternative to getting older and I don't think any of us want that. I'll take all the aches/pains that come w/growing older rather then dieing young.
