Chrome Startes
« on: July 30, 2007, 11:37:46 PM »

Greetings everyone,

I'm curious what kind of experience people have had with the different brands of chrome starters for the 103 TC. Thanks in advance for any information you may provide!

Regards,

Agree with Jim. You can find them at 20% off or occasionally on ebay for less than listed prices. May as well do the chrome inner primary while you're at it!  :2vrolijk_21:

It the chrome starter an easy upgrade when doing the chrome inner primary?  I would like to do the primary, starter and true duals at the same time.

If you're riding an '07, you can do it anytime because you no longer have to go inside the primary to remove the starter. You can remove the two bolts and the starter wiggles right out. Pop the new one in and you're done. The whole job can be done very easily with only a couple of tools.

And it looks really good to.  :2vrolijk_21:

Remember that you get what you pay for. We tried some cheaper but higher kw starters here at the shop with varying results. From just  fine to wouldn't engage ring gear to would not disengage (very hot) Other than starter clutch failures on higher compression engines we stick to the harley starter. By the way, I painted mine silverbead blast to match the motor

When I went to  a chrome inner primary, I used Carquest cast aluminum colored paint and it matches the siver motor to a tee.

I agree you get what you pay. There Are other chrome starters out there but the good ones are in the 450 dollar range. I have tried several of the cheapie chrome starters with high KW ratings and thought they where no better than a stock starter. And the cast paint makes them look like a million dollars. I have PC them as well for custom builds.

Did you remove the starter to paint it?

I give a great big thumbs up  :2vrolijk_21: to the HD starter that comes on these bikes (in 'CHROME' of course)!!!  I haven't done it, but would think you'd have to remove the starter to get a decent paint job and probably better use some good hi-temp paint also due to how hot mine gets from the motor/exhaust heat.  :confused5: har!  spyder
