FireDood

You asked about my Bushtec trailer earlier.

The trailer has only had to be greased at the hiem joint and the hitch rotation point, before and during a couple of 2500+ mile trips.  Other than that it has been maintenance free.   They installed new bearings in the wheels when I got them powder coated at about 3500 miles.  It now has about 9K miles on it and has been well worth the $$ as far as I'm concerned.  21 cu/ft of space to carry items like luggage, jackets, helmets, oil, tools and anything else that you can think of, it will hold 350lbs of luggage.  The cooler does kind of increase the tongue weight but I try to keep if below 45lbs.  The Bushtec has a dead suspension, (air shocks and torsion bar), so that it does not jump around behind the bike.  I hardly even know that it is back there.......

Sorry that it took me so long to return an answer to your question.

If you ever find your way up North let me know.......

Thanks for the followup. This is excellent testimony to the product for those that already have them, and are thinking about getting them. :2vrolijk_21:

Definitely will let you know if I get to your area.

Here's mine, just finished last week.

Hobo

Good looking paint job  :2vrolijk_21:  I just found a Bustec "Rat" that had been sitting in someone's backyard for many years and if I get the hitch in time will bring it to Sedona. It's going to need some TLC but mechanically is ok and I won't have the time for filling and paint. The graphics on yours is about what I want. Thanks for the inspiration.  Doc

I got the trailer used with less than 1000 miles on it for a really good price.  Then had about $800 back in the repaint, striping and graphics.  The striping and Eagle graphics make it go faster.  Actually have to worry about it passing me now.  And portable beverages have turned out to be a great thing!

I just found a "rat" Bushtec in someone's backyard and should be ready for Sedona except for paint. I ordered a Bushtec hitch and haven't been able to eye ball it yet, but will the shark fins get in the way ? Doc

Looking at the Bushtec hinge on the SEEG there shouldn't be any exhaust clearance issues.  All the hitch is inboard of any exhaust mounting or extension.

I just finished sand blasting and painting the frame today, and here is a pic of the Bushtec suspension. It's like you said,  torsion bars, sway bar and air shocks. Look for the thread "Rat Survivor Bushtec" .  Doc

Thanks for the feedback. Those tips stick out so much I thought it might limit the turning radius. Doc

We just got back from Sedona and I can't express how much more enjoyable it was to use a trailer for the first time. We knew there would be some weather issues so we just brought it all. Terry appreciated being unrestricted as far as clothes and shoes and ...and she could shop for stuff and not have to worry about where to put it. :-* Here are some pics of the Bushtec setup, and in my opinion doesn't really compromise the clean look of the bike. :2vrolijk_21:  Doc

Thanks for those last few images Doc.  After the tranny shelled in the SEEG I decided to go ahead and complete the basic interchangeability of the two bikes.  So sometime sooner rather then later this year the SERG will get a hitch also.

Had wondered what kind of fender extension to use to hide the hitch and didn't really want to use another FLHX rear fascia.  That V rail rear bumper looks nice and does a great job.  One less thing to have to figure out.

I have one of those v-rail things that hide the hitch. Going to use the FLHX part.

Call me if you are interested.
