Locking leg fairing glove boxes by Darrell H??
« on: February 06, 2005, 08:53:19 PM »

Some of you may remember back when I first posted about custom made locking leg fairing boxes for the SEEG made by Darrel H (some of you didn't really pay attention to who he is, after I introduced him to this site, until you saw the photos of his V-Rod and other mods that he's done).  My set of locking boxes was damaged in my motorcycle accident.

However, I recently contacted Darrell and asked if he might be interested in making another run (he only made ten sets, the first time and they went fast).  Most of you know that I push eGlide Goodies leg fairing vents and locking glove boxes but they just plain do not have the custom look and feel that Darrell's have.

I believe they ended up being about a couple hundred a pair.  My question is WHO IS INTERESTED IN A SET?  Please respond here, rather than bothering Darrell individually.......he's very busy working on those bikes and planning trips.  If the interest and commitment is there from this site, then he'll look into having them made again.  Here is Darrell's reply to me:

I could do another run of them if we are convinced that they will be purchased. It was a substantial investement in time and money on the last go around. I would like to have some feedback first on how well they have held up to be sure that if changes need to be made I can get them done.

I am also convinced that there should be a way to get the cost down but I never bothered to push it the first time as my thinking at that time was that I would never do it again. My attitude has changed since then, I got a lot of satisfaction from seeing the appreciation for them that you guys have shown.

I would need some time to research it and maybe there is enough machining / fabrication advice on the forum that I could get some help. I would also need to figure out how to use eBay or PayPal to make it easier for those wanting them and on this end to prepare & send them.

If you think there is enough interest I will start investigating at my end. it would take a couple of months before anyone recieved them but that is only because I am struggling at the moment with work load & trying to finish the two bikes (V-Rod & Indian).
Let me know what you think.

and opened...........
These locks are the barrell type locks that have a totally different back set but can be re-keyed by a locksmith, to your ignition key.

Hey JCZ,

Count me in, I had them on my wish list for my future SEEG but since you brought it up I'll order them from you now.  I'll ask my cousin to see if he's interested for his B/B SEEG also.  Thanks again for your forethought & I'll even send a check whenever you need it.

A question for you guys that have them; are they waterproof? The locking feature is not a priority w/ me, but I'm tired of soaking all my s**t everytime I wash my bike. If they are, count me in.

I bought a set and love them.  They are holding up very well and still look great!  It would be nice however if they were hinged like the egilde's.  But still very satisfied with my purchase.

You are talking about 2 different critter when you talk 04 verses 05 they are differnt shapes and mount different I tried my 04 ones on the 05 vented lowers and they are not the sames and wouldn't fit without mods.
