I second that....the IT Wizards here at work do not recommend swapping to Vista at his point in time.  Too many issues...

Crikey, I just wanna run my sert software, do the big box stores sell a pc without the latest greatest m/s stuff that don't work yet? Like xp4 or whatnotr?

Thanks for the input, totally baffled applehead in a ms world.  I am used to stuff working.

....Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and get a macbook...

Miker,

Give this place a try   http://www.dellauction.com/      or this for the main home page   http://www.dell.com/

Dell can also supply a new unit with XP (special request) for a limited time, for those who can't use Vista.

When you purchase a SERT does the cable come with it or is it extra?

No cable is supplied with unit.  Must purchase seperately.

Seegarz,

Used to be part of the kit, then the MoCo saw an opportunity to increase profits .  The cables will now cost you $30 extra from H-D.  Of course, you could also buy them from a place like Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.

Thanx Jerry,
They are a lot cheaper elsewhere...rather than buying the HD lowest bidder alternative.  I will also be able to get a longer cable...was asking because when I got back my SERT and CD there was no cable with it.  It is not really a problem because they are relatively cheap and easy to come by.

Jerry,

I've been seeing parallels between the software industry and the MoCo for some time now.  Used to be that you didn't want to introduce a new product until it had been thoroughly tested and debugged.  This had multiple advantages, such as preserving your good reputation, reducing running changes and warranty expenses, etc.  Then along came the software hotshots who started throwing out half-baked software in an attempt to be first to market, pump up their stock prices, get rich, and then disappear.  Microsoft has been doing everything but the disappear part for ages (it's probably time for service pack 1 for Vista about now, some of their operating systems have had up to 4 service packs and countless other "fixes").  So I guess it was only natural for the MoCo to look at the big pile of money Mr. Gates has and assume that using the final customer as your unpaid QC inspector must be a really good idea.
