Rich,
Some have posted that HD admitted a problem with the cylinder sleeves slipping.  I have not heard of anyone confirming any new part numbers besides the head gaskets. Your issue will be will they do both F&R to keep things in balance?  You should al;so have the crank runout checked while its apart for the fix.

Dropped mine off at the dealer this afternoon.

Questions:

1.The cylinders have sleeves in them?

2. Can they check the crank runout while just replacing the head gasket?

Thanks Phil.  I will try to get both F&R done.  I had the crank runout previously checked (from one side) and it was good.

Yes for sleeves.  No for checking crank while working on only the top end.  Crankshaft would be accessed lower with removal of either cam cover or primary (and other bits).

Thanks Twolane. I will speak with my SW and or SM and see if they can (will) check it for me.

Here's a link to a thread discussing a letter about the 110 failures in the Feb. issue of American Iron.

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=18670.0

Their response to the letter is laughable.

Totally expected response, although I almost thought they would avoid even printing anything.  I wrote to the editors of AIM and Hot Bike and this is the first time the subject was mentioned.  The writer failed to mention the crank runout issue, while less common is more serious.  Denial is a river in Milwaukee.  Also Stamford, CT apparently.

I think Denial is somewhere in every state on these 110 issues.

I wonder if Wills Rings would solve it?  A pretty easy job (if it's possible, that is), but it would need a special gasket I guess....

I had sent an e-mail regarding this problem to American Iron Magazine last week and in response to the letter written to them. Based on their response they had not seen much of a problem. Just a few minutes ago I received a response from American Iron stating that at the time that issue was written (several months prior to the issues release) they had not seen the problems HOWEVER since that time they have received a lot more info.

From the response to my e-mail "Lots has happened since that issue went to print. (We work way in advance. For example, we're just finishing the May issue.) Donny is putting together a full story on this problem with the 110s. It is a big problem."

I was very happy to see that AIMag is behind us and looking to dive deeper. I'm hopeful that the press will exert some pressure to get HD to bring this to a satisfactory resolution.

My Springer should be ready tomorrow. New cylinders, rings, and 4th Gen gaskets. See pic of the new graphite 4th gen gasket vs the 3 layer sandwich gasket. I guess we are beta testing their product in some ways.

Maybe we've found the SUPER GLUE we've been looking for. The plastic looking material at the edge of the gaskit must melt and seep into the area between the liner and aluminum jug and glue it fast. Or it melts and seal the head to cylinder so the oil can get out.

I see nothing but a another joke at trying to repair the problem properly.  :coolblue:

It appears that the new gasket focuses on the seal around the dowel pin with some extra rubber sealing material there. Of course, this won't do one bit of good to cure a slipped liner.  :(

Do you have a part number on these "special" new gaskets that are supposed to cure a problem that Mother Harley "does not have?"

They will probably come out with a 'B' suffix. 16801-07B.

The Eagle is in the shop this week for a second round of repairs to leaky back cylinder and noise in front cylinder head (clearance issue we think). Ticket # 816143 issued 1-28-08 with John in Customer Service @ MoCo, along with a letter I sent requesting a fix or $$$ back.  8)
