Motor Problem
« on: September 01, 2007, 04:06:08 PM »

After contributing to the leak poll detailing my positive results (my response woke up the gremlins), I went for a ride. 52 miles into my ride the oil light came on, I know I had oil due to my pre ride check, 2 minutes later the noise. Sounds like the motor is filled with stainless steel balls, so loud you can't tell where in the motor the noise is originating. I am currently waitng for the bike to be towed into the shop.

The Motor Company agreed to the motor replacement and is sending a new motor, not remanufactured, in a week. The flywheel was twisted so severely the wrench cound not remove the cam plate.

See what you get for bragging :(     :nixweiss:

Sure hope since you heard it that you were able to shut it down in time to limit any damage.   Make sure if it is the oil pump that they check your run out while they are there.

Best of luck with it and sorry to hear about it.

I've done up oil pumps before and I believe the oil pump is trash at this point. I also believe the motor has sustained major damage. Also, When I left to ride this morning the motor was dry as it has been since the repair 10900 miles ago which I reported in the poll, now with the oil light on and a motor full of steel balls I see oil weeping from the bottom / base of the rear cylinder and from the rear push rod bottom / base.

That's basically the same thing I had happen to mine Monday.  After they checked it out, oil pump was shot and they found the crank run out at .042.  Needless to say, a new motor is being put together and shipped out next week.  I was told that it will have a newer crank design and the latest head gaskets.  Whatever that means.  Hopefully they take care of yours the same way.  Good Luck.

We were counting on yours to show that new cylinders were the fix.  Yuk.  Sorry to hear.  You'll probably get a new motor.
Please update that leak poll.

Thanks

Harley has found a way to increase their market.  Owners of the 110 engines will need a second bike to ride while their bikes are in the shop for repairs.  I'm a little happier every day that I did decide to keep my '06.  I'll have something to ride while my '07 is in for repairs.

I've got a little over 3000 miles and a slight leak is showing up at the rear head gasket.  I've already had my speedo/tach replaced once and the second is no better than the first.

Update the motor is trashed, cam plate is damaged will not remove / can't be removed and the flywheel is twisted. The wrench at the dealership states "this motor goes back to Harley Davidson and I need them to send me a new one". The Motor Company is not open on Labor Day so I will contact them first thing in the AM.
