36' Contender

You need to put those 225's in the back of the garage and put a set of those new 350's on the back of that Contender.
You know ....the hell with fuel mileage

You don't appreciate just how far 110' is until you climb to the top

I could, but why 

I only climb to the top when I have to, and I usually have a bit of extra weight to bring along. And we seldom climb with the stick just "sticking up there".

The FF you see on the top is one of the typical probies with the "that ain't no big deal" attitude.
Which will typically result in the "OK smart ass, grab a belt and go to the top, lock in and wait for the signal to come down" reply.

And not that we are cruel or anything, but depending on the level of the "bravado" the angle of elevation will change from mild to wild.

Nothing like climbing up 100+ feet at 75-80 degrees to chill out a new guy.
Note: a 110' ladder (ours) includes the distance from the ground to the platform, so the ladder itself is about 102'

I can tell you though a one time I wouldn't hesitate to climb straight up and survey the world from the tip, quite the awesome view, but after 15 years of working on the truck .................................

Plus it is just not the same without the Towers anymore.

I'm sure I have pictures somewhere from the top, that and from the bucket of our 95' platform aerial, I'll have to look around.

Part of our agility test for potential FF candidate's is to climb to the top of our ladder (100') and lock in. Needless to say this creates quite the pucker factor on a windy day. As Duane mentioned the view is awesome, but not much fun as you are ascending up the ladder and it's swaying in the breeze. Recently the local PD SWAT has started requiring potential candidates to climb ladder and lock in also. Their initiation/testing is somewhat like boot camp (for those that have never been in the military think of the movie "Officer & A Gentlemen"), and the FF's get to stand around and watch and give them chit as they are doing it. Nothing like a some good ole fashioned rivalry between our public safety bro's/sis'.

Yes it is.Sad but true,I was in a lake with a tournament offshore boat.It was for a good cause though....Hawaian Tropic bikini contest followed up with a booze cruise. We were stopped by the man 200 ft from the dock.Think god for designated drivers.He didn't know the bow from the stern,but he was in the drivers seat.

Having had 2 Donzi 32 ZF's, both I really liked, all I used to see in our area were Donzis and Fountains. Now all I see are Contenders, a lot of this is due to so many dealers dropping the Donzi line and Fountain has priced themselves far above the market. Everyone I know that now have Contenders are thrilled with the ride over their previous Donzis and Fountains. They say it has a much better ride and a lot dryer.

I was born in Tenn. and grew up on Chickamauga Lake till I was the ripe old age of 7. Are you saying there are Donzi.Fountain,and Contender offshore boats in Tennessee?

There a quite a few Fountains here but they are all "go fast" boats. I have a place in Destin, Fl, which is where I boat.

Same with us, for most guys that is the only time they will climb the ladder. Some want nothing to do with it

Oh yeah, we have a 35 mph limit on ops, but even in that wind the ladder is very stable. This truck is a world away from the one it replaced, which gave you a "pucker factor" every time you even thought you might have to use it.
That truck eventually got downgraded by the white shirts to an "emergency use only" status - duh - isn't that when we usually use it

Reminds me of a good PD story and the ladder  Better to tell in person though for the "visual" effect.
