Birth Of The Trike
« on: September 03, 2007, 11:25:50 PM »

Sorry to be late with this, but I have been “out ridin”.  The Trike was “born” August 26th at about 7:00 pm.  It got loaded on my trailer, taken home and parked in the driveway.  Next morning about 4:00 am I started for the National Hog Rally in Knoxville, TN and as soon as I arrived, I unloaded the Trike and got to go for a ride!  Not sure where I went, somewhere up in the mountains and just had a hoot. Did the Dragon on Friday and some more riding on Saturday.  About 400 miles for the weekend.

OK, here are the pictures of the build.  You need three basic ingredients to build a Trike – (1) A Bike, (2) a conversion kit and (3) a builder.  This post shows the bike just before we put it on the dyno.  Obviously it’s a 07’ SEUC to which we added true duals, Vance and Hines Slash Cuts, a K&N air filter and a SERT.  On the dyno we tuned it to about 101 horsepower and 112 ft. pounds of torque. Plus enough gas to help it run cooler.  See the next post for the Trike Kit.

The conversion kit is a Lehman kit.  You can see details about them at their web site – Lehman.com – The only options I added were wire wheels (they are not here yet) and the reduced trail triple-tree.  The kit comes in two pieces – the box you see here and the actual trike box.  See the next post.

It comes as a piece of fiberglass and you have to get it cleaned up and painted.  We used a Springfield, OH shop to do the painting and it took longer than building the Trike, but was well worth the wait.

The Trike was built at H-D Sales in Napoleon, OH.  The guy who did most of the build is Marv Yagel.  He was/is in the ownership chain, and I think it is now his son who is the owner.  Marv lost a leg sometime ago, and started building his own Trikes, and eventually became a Lehman dealer.  He is one talented guy.  If you want to read his story go to H-D Sales web site and they have an article about him.  This picture is when the conversion was pretty well along – and that’s Marv in the picture.

Well, here it is.  Pictures don’t do justice to the paint job. The painter matched the stripe coming off the gas tank and onto the side panels and then on to the “box” perfectly.  The stripe is an exact match to the H-D stripe, including the gold fleck that bleeds into the black.  It’s awesome.  I rode the Dragon while in Knoxville and was very impressed with the Trike’s handling.  It has more than enough power to pull you out of any corner and it goes around just absolutely flat.  It corners plenty fast for me.

If you want to see it at the Dragon, go to Killboy.com and click on the 24th and then the Trike category.  The first two pictures are me on the Trike.

It took about 3 weeks from the time I sold the old Trike until I picked this one up.  I think I gained about 8 pounds just sitting around waiting for it.
