Let me hijack the babble with
TODAY'S UPDATE:
I've spent the last few days trying to finalize what this build will be. Since I ordered cases, and am building an engine from scratch, I have the opportunity to make some changes to this engine if I'd like. Not as many options as I had hoped out there though. My preference would have been to use a 4.5" crank, for 113" displacement. This would have allowed me to use my new top end, and just replace the pistons with S&S Stroker Pistons. Well, S&S doesn't make stroker pistons for this. I won't use any others in this application, so 113" is out.
Then I have two options in looking at making it 116". S&S makes two Hot Setups for 116". The first is a complete package with the flywheels, cylinders, pistons, heads, and 625 gear drive cam setup. I don't believe the S&S heads will allow the use of the HPI 62mm TB I'm using. I also don't see the need to change the heads I had made for this engine. Second option is the same package without the heads. This comes with a 640 gear drive cam setup. Not really interested in the big lift cams, and higher compression.
It appears that my best, and cheapest option, which will also yield the strongest build, is to leave it 110". It would use all the components I already have on the top end. The performance would remain the same. So would the tune. All I should need is a 4.375" S&S Forged Crank w/Rods, and a gear drive cam setup. Wes can grind the same cams for the gear drive application, which would keep the engine setup exactly as before. I'm leaning in this direction right now. I hope to decide by the end of the day, and get the crank ordered. Just so you're aware, the 4.375" crank is special for them, as they don't mass produce the stock 96"/103"/110" HD crank size. More $$$ of course as a special order. But it'll be a one-off, at this time, and should get some individual attention.
By staying with the 110", I won't have to sell off any of my new top end components either.
At the very least, I will have a set of chain drive CR 595 cams available for sale, designed for the 110 engine by Wes Brown of Cycle-Rama. If I go 116", I'll have other Hi performance 110 parts from my top end available too. I'll post what I have in the Selling Section when I decide which way to go. I like the idea of 116", but I'm leery of upping the stroke a full 1/4" for the longevity/reliability factor! Man, I thought this would be easy!

Hoist!
