Some interesting things have popped up, now that we've ordered the cases and are getting ready to order the new crank. Wes at Cycle-Rama recommended that I use the "Race Forged" S&S crank for this build. Vern spent a buncha time on the phone with S&S yesterday to go over things. S&S never heard of a "Race Forged" crank!

Their standard crank is a forged crank. They make a crank for racing referred to a "pork chop" style crank. I'm not sure what that means, but he said I didn't want to know the price of it. Meaning REALLY expensive! We will be using their standard Forged 4-3/8" crank for this. This crank is for Timkin only application. Cost is $1345. I'll be calling Wes to find out what he was trying to recommend. Wes knows his stuff, but his communication skills need work.

Another issue arose too. The '07/'08's are completely different in the Primary too, as we all know. Well, this leads to having to setup special spacers for mounting that big ole motor comp sprocket on these things. They told him that Zippers does this for them, and to send it there. NOT! Vern will check to see if there's a kit for this. If not, he'll determine what's required and procure/fabricate the parts as required for proper alignment.

Interesting things seem to surface as we go down the road of an entire engine build for my bike. HD changed so many little things in an attempt to fight off aftermarket product availability for our bikes. Forget the cosmetics. Who cares. Plenty of stuff in that direction. But the important stuff, like engine, trans, primary are keeping performance part manufacturers at bay. They seem to be shying away from developing parts for these bikes. HD's strict patents, and the seemingly unnecessary drastic design changes, all seem to be done to boost HD profits, while providing us an inferior product, and at the same time, making it very difficult to fix them properly.

We will overcome all these issues on this new engine. I maintain this is not rocket science. The rocket science is HD's effort to prevent us from taking care of our bikes our way, and keep competition away from them. They spend more time and effort in doing this, then making sure they provide us with a properly designed drivetrain in the first place. Which if they did that instead, we'd need not look to have to go to the aftermarket to have a strong reliable motorcycle! Corporate bastards!

As i find out more details, I'll fill ya'll in on them.

Hoist!
