Head Leaked again with new jugg replacement 2200 miles
« on: September 07, 2007, 03:52:45 PM »

Talk about frustrating,  I was actually encouraged that the last replacement was the resolve to the issue.   BAH GUESS AGAIN.  After 2200 miles mine started leaking AGAIN.  This last time Harley replaced the rear cylinder as well as the rear head gasket using the revised gasket.

This time I had someone else look at it on my nickel.   Wes and Chuck at Cyle Rama used a different tactic to resolve this issue.  Cometic Base gasket .010 then the O-Ring then Cometic .030 gasket.    I was told the leaking issue we have on the 110's is very common to bigger built motors and this is the way they have resolved it on those motors.   I had nothing to loose other than jumping through another set of Harley hoops.   I only have 155 miles on the bike now so fingers crossed again.  Back to the hoping it is resolved.

Is that the Cometic MLS head gasket?  If so I thought they did not use the o-ring>   :nixweiss:

So, chasing a warranty problem on your own dime is sometimes easier after all :nixweiss: ?

Harry,

Why don't you call that into HD Cust Service just to get another data point that the current methodology isn't working.

I can't believe this is happening again!  What the hell does it take for the MoCo to acknowledge this problem and get a proven fix out!  I wonder if there is some governmental agency these complaints could be brought to.  -I'm really sorry for your having to go through this crap!   :(
If I have the same problems, I guarantee you this will be the last Harley I ever buy.

Chief,

if I do that they will want to do another inspection and I really need to see if this works first.   If it doesnt I will pay to have the harley crap put back in and go the mileage till it fails again in 90 days and then allow them to look at it.
The other reason not to call it in is if they want to look at it I would have to deny them so that they don't try and hold any warranty over my head.   I was just posting to let people know it didnt work and not to be over enthusiastic about it.

UltraFxr,

The .010 is a flat base gasket so I was told, I didn't get to see it, and the .030 is their standard 3 part with an O ring slid inbetween the 3 part and the base gasket creating an .040 gasket in total width.

Yeah, my first one didn't work either.  Got about 1,300 miles on second fix now and we'll see what happens.  I'm cautiously optomistic and hope to be pleasantly suprised which just proves that hope springs eternal in H-D land.

Sorry to hear Chief.  Mine is going in Sunday afternoon for the two cylinder kits and the tranny case.
Did you see the Harley stock and Financial news?
