07 110 prone to die at idle
« on: September 11, 2007, 12:01:09 AM »

My stock 07 SE ultra just dies out every so often at idle, typically warm or hot. While it only does this infrequently it's enough that I am always a little worried that it will die and put me in a difficult situation. Anyone had this problem or have any ideas? I am wondering if this could be a symptom of the compression release wire melt failure. Suggestions would be appreciated before I take it into the local Mo-Co and they can't find anything wrong.

Fortinately I haven't had that particular problem.  Fuel Inj. issue?  Does it miss when wide open?  PowerCommander?

Although it's annoying - remember to cycle the key off/on and wait for the Dash light before re-starting the engine ( like re-booting your Computer )
That's fixed a couple that I know of -
Wait for the light initially to start - and if it falters and dies at idle - reboot so to speak

Along with everything else mine stalls on a regular basis also. Usually after it is warmed but on many occasions after a 5 to 10 mile highway run. Dealer says he doesn't have a clue. :nixweiss: It must be normal or they all do it.

Its completely stock.

Absolutely not!  They do not all do it.  Mine has only stalled once in a year of riding and it was just taken out of the garage.

Wrong, they all do not stall. I may not be able to ride my bike for a couple of weeks, due to my schedule, but when I get on it,  it starts right up and  I have never had a problem with it stalling. Wish I knew the answer to your problem but the "problem" being "normal" is not the correct answer.

Sorry to creat such an uproar. I know the don't all stall. I was just passing on my dealers answer to almost all problems. Unless the rods are hanging out of it they usualy don't have an answer.

As a test, I told the dealer that I had oil blowing out the pipes, flames licking up from the air cleaner and that the rear piston was coming up through the head at TDC and hitting me in the nuts !!
You're right - he said not to worry "That's normal"

I think everyone took the "normal" response as being your dealer's and not yours. You haven't created any problems here so keep on posting. Good luck. jj

Tell your half-baked dealer to hook up his diagnostic equipment in data acquisition mode and then ride the bike until it dies.  It's a damn shame these clowns have the latest and greatest technology available to them, but not enough sense to use it.

Goin Mobile,

Have you checked to see if you have an intake leak on the bike?   After that I would follow GRC's advice and have them do some diagnostic checks on the bike.   If they hem and haw I would find another dealer to take a look.

Mine died at the intersection a while back. Damn was I mad. It started up again, but died again before I got another hundred feet. My question. . . I notice had a little yellow light on for several days and wonder if that is trying to tell me something? If I didn't know better it knew that I was . . . yep, out of gas!  :huepfenlol2:
