Still have valve noise
« on: September 14, 2007, 07:10:53 AM »

My 110 was in two months ago for the 2000-3000 rpm valve noise.  The dealer clearanced the rocker boxes, but I still have a very noticeable ticking right at 2000 - disappears just above that until 2300 (on the bike tach) - then is less noticeable above that.  It does it most when slowly accelerating and when it goes through that zone decelerating.  Mine was the first they'd ever heard about regarding the clearance problem (had to tell them the cause based on info from this site), perhaps they didn't know what they were looking for?

I too have a noise 1800-2200 rpm on my new motor. i've been holding off trying to fix it because it's my second motor and don't really want to open it up.  :nixweiss:

I was told by the rep that came out and road mine that a new motor would not cure the noise or heat issues with the bike.  I got a motor to cure the vibration which is crank related.

my bike's ticking ( at 2000 RPM / 35 MPH in third ) was greatly reduced by getting 4 new lifters installed under warranty
You need to get a stethascope and listen to where it's coming from - if it's lifters, the noise will be much greater when you're listening down on the tappet blocks just above the cam cover, and decrease as you would move up towards the rockers
My .02 cents

It's not valve noise, it's the countown timer for the next engine problem.  Maybe the 09's will have a "CHANGE ENGINE SOON"  light.

It's serviced so often, I don't have to pay for routine maintenance, they change the engine with the oil! (I assume the MOCO doesn't make them move the oil filter  :( )  I also had my tranny R&R'd so its oil and primary oil are all new!

A silver lining, no, I'm delusional.  I cannot ride what's not in the garage.
