6K difference in trading for an 08 SEUC
« on: September 17, 2007, 04:47:26 PM »

Well after much more neogating at dealer today they lowered the trade difference from almost 11k down to 8200k, I offered them 6k difference & they said no so i left. Salesman called me 15 minutes later & said they would take the deal. I would be trading my 07 SEUC for an 08. Iam going to take all my stuff from bike & return it back to stock form. Dual exhaust, thundermax, etc.

My dilemna now is it worth trading for. I do like the new ABS brakes & bigger gas tank, also painted tour pack with additional lights on back & side vs 07 which have nothing except for tail lights. I originally wanted to be down as low as 4k difference but there's no way they will do that....

Sorry for ranting......

I'm still not sure I like the ABS, had a few incidents on bumpy roads with car and ABS. If you like you current bike, $6,000 would get you some cool stuff!! Me I'd keep your current bike, if it doesn't have any issues, but that's me.

Several more questions to consider are:
Do you feel that you have already got $6K worth of enjoyment out of your 07' SEUC?
Is the ABS and Fly-by-Wire something that you feel is a must have?
Does the extra gallon of gas really make you stop for gas less?
Do you really like the color scheme on the 08's better?

Personally, I would have to be pretty motivated to make the trade...If it is important to you and you feel that you would be happier with an 08' go for it. Good Luck with your decision.

Not that it's a big deal, but it is an anniversary model year and just maybe to someone else it may be worth a bit more, who knows.

You'll be getting the latest version of the 110" motor, which could be good, you're getting the ABS and the fly by wire throttle.  You're also another year newer.

On the down side, the ECM controller you have will not work on the '08.  So you sell it to someone on a '07 or older bike.  As far as the exhaust, I've been told they are the same and I already have Dresser Duals and Ovals for the new SERK when it comes in November.

So the bottom line is what is worth to you to make the trade.  If the $6k is too much, walk away, if you're will to take this big of a hit, do it.

I've got a '55 Nomad for sale right now that I've been buying stuff for since I bought the Nomad in '01.  I now have about $52k invested and I'm asking $40k for it with the motor and $30k without the motor/trans combo.  Talk about taking a hit, what about this???  I'm sure if I were to hold out I'll find someone that has the same dream and project scope as I do and it's worth every penny of the $52k, but to move it I need to take a big hit.  For me, I'd rather now have the money to fund my bike cravings as most of my new St. Louis friends are bike people.

So how much is it worth?  Only you can judge that for yourself.

Sorry for rambling on the subject.

Good luck with your decision and let us know how it turns out.

Like the others have said, only you will know if it's worth the $6,000 difference.  The $4,000 would have been real nice and easier to justify (not that the $6,000) doesn't.  Myself, if I really liked the 08 color I was getting, I would probably go for it.  I think the ABS and Brembo brakes will be a good point now and  in the future.  Also, the cruise should hold steadier with the throttle by wire and the IDS rear pulley can't hurt.  I personally like the features of the new tourpack but you can always tell an 06 or 07 CVO by the leather one in a crowd.  If you can financially do it and they have the bike in stock, go for it.  Good luck and post pictures if you get it.

They have 2 sitting on the floor. 2 tone White & Canyon Copper/stardust silver. Still undecided on what to do. If my thundermax would work i'd prolly do it. Also my road zepplin seat wont work on the 08 either thats another problem as well. They are getting one of the 105th anniversary ones, but they said its going to be some $$$$$ over MSRP. I'd pull the trigger if they would make same deal on 105th anniversary one....Thanx for all input...

I would do it. You also get the nicer seat, adj side vents too. is that 6 grand plus tax and fees? in calif it would run a lot more out the door.

All you can do is ask them, what will they say?  No?  I think that's funny, that they're going to charge more $$$$$$ for the Anniversary.  Why?  First off, it's going to be the most produced (1800 of 4200) CVO Ultra colors, and second, so every 5 years, the MoCo going to claim that they have a rare anniversary edition that commands more money?  Sheesh...wait five years and get a 2010 Anniversay edition, it will be worth even more, cuz it's new and improved!!!  What a racket the MoCo has.  Buy it because you like the color, not because it's an anniversay model...even the 2003 100 year models aren't commanding that much.  I guess that's because the whole line was anniversary bikes that year.

I'd venture to guess dealer's cost is $27,000-$29,000 on a 2008 SEUC $35,000 motorcycle.

If I owned a Harley dealership and my salesman gave $31,000 for an 07 SEUC when I can buy a new one for $27,000-$29,000, I'd have to fire him.  Anytime I want the luxury of trading in a 1-2 year old motorcyle versus selling mine outright,  I expect to get insulted at their trade in offer.  But, that's just me, I'm just an old backwards redneck.

Going to sleep on it see if i still feel same way tomorrow. I not really looking forward to putting my bike back to stock either....

I thought about the 08 also, but to many issues for me, but thats another topic!!

The six gallon tank doesn't mean a whole lot, cause if your riding with someone else that is not on an 08, well you have to stop when they stop anyways, right  :nixweiss:

The painted tour pack with the lights this year is nice, but thats about it!!

Sure new is nice, but I think this year would be a good year to maybe wait and see if they are actually better!! :nixweiss:

I ended up buying a new 07 ultra, cause I wasn't sure about the 08's, To many rumors about 08 issues, thats all!!

Like Firedood said, if you like it, go for it, It's all in what you like and what you want!!

                                                     Good Luck

6K is a big hit for 1 year, and that will buy some nice saddle time ...In the end it's all about the experience anyway.

Hard to beat getting anywhere near invoice on the trade.

Some of us old bucks can recall that the banks used to want 20 or 25% down on a car.  That was simple mathmatics that covered the dealer's margin and some depreciation for the first year to put the bank in a good equity position.

Nowadays everyone expects these depreciating assets to hold their value.  Unfortunately, a lot of the misconception on a bike or car holding its value was established in the years that inflation was out of control.

You could trade for nearly what you paid for your ride, the part most folks seem to miss is the other half of the equation, the new ride cost 30% more.

Less than a 20% hit in a year may not sound great but it isn't the end of the world.

Bottom line is after sleeping on it if you're still not sure, you most likely don't "want" the new bike all that much.
