07' CVO Ultra 110 MOTOR Question....?
« on: October 03, 2007, 10:17:07 PM »

OK.
Got my 07 CVO and am loving the hell out of it.

Heres the deal. A few months back down at an event in Southern Indiana(Boogie)...my bike got so hot that smoke started POURING out from the air cleaner area up top between both jugs.  It was chitty muddy...and the oil cooler was packed with chit. But litterally...it turned into a smoke fest...NEVER EVER had this happen....TONS OF SMOKE

Oil Temp was 285. So I find a place on the side to shut her down and cool off. All the while a smell of burt plastic or metal or something???? couldnt place the smell.... but smelt like a mix of the above ....was coming from the air cleaner AREA...

Bike cools down, find an opening and hit the path to the highway back to the hotel as I knew the bike needed cold moving air.

The way home, 225 miles, the bike runs good....but still has that smell.

Dealer says its ok. I have all fluids changed...at about 1200 miles.

Daytona twin tech comes off...they install SE race tuner.

Bike runs good...but...

-Still hot.
-Front jug seems to knock every so often.
-And that Plastic, metal, I DONT KNOW smell still comes around.

The bike seems like it still runs WAYYYYY to lean..and is just dying to OPEN UP? (my old 88(03 RD Glide) big bore (95) ran better)

No oil leak, nothing burnt, pipe from front jug at O2 Sensor a little blue.

Bike has: Rinehart True Duals, SE air clner, SE Race tune..

Anyone care to chime in?????

I have had oil temps of 340 degrees on the first motor in the 08, never developed what you describe.  Keep us posted as to what they find.

I never had the smoking issues but did experience the heat issues. Maybe check with another dealer who will listen that is familiar with these 110 issues and will help you through them. Good luck. Seems like the moco should just give us several thousand off the price so we can just fix what needs fixing instead of waiting for the problems to develop. yeah right. Ha Ha.

Brian,
Check the ACR wires and any tubing that may be in the area described.
At oil temps of 285, the heads are well above 325 front and 370 rear.
Good enough to cook something near them.
